Description Finally a gryphon! They've always had a special place in my heart, ever since I started drawing. My first own character was actually a gryphon too, but he's in dear need of a redesign. Maybe one day.

So yeah, after years of not drawing any gryphons I finally decided to tackle them once again, but this time with more confidence, and I gotta admit, overall I'm pretty happy! It's not perfect of course, but it's good enough for now.

I originally wanted to just draw a generic gryphon with some generic anthro character, but after seeing Red-IzaK 's great art and her own gryphon Izora, I knew that I wanted to draw her here. A quick DM later and she gave me permission to use her and her husband's (RicSimane ) character for this drawing. Thank you again, I hope you like them! :3

I think anyone would be glad to receive such a gift! I'm really impressed by the colour scheme and how nicely it all fits together. All the colours fit in nicely and nothing pops out too much which adds to the calm and relaxing atmosphere. I'm a big fan of the poses and how nicely you managed to intertwine the characters together. It's not easy to make things interact so closely and make it look natural but you really succeeded in it!

Only thing I would maybe complain about is his clothing. I don't know how many reference images you used but I think clothing, and how it creases, folds, stretches etc., is something to not skimp on when it comes to references. I still can't intuitively do clothing that well and I'd definitely recommend you use clothing references very liberally! Maybe you already do, in which case keep doing that . Also, by no means are the clothes distracting, but that's just something to be mindful of.

That being said, I think you knocked the gryph completely out of the park! The feather textures, the pose, expression, everything looks so good! She really looks like she's enjoying the headrubs a lot :3

Fantastic work with this, the finished product is really impressive! Your soft shading method works really well for the clothing, it comes across as soft and somewhat fluffy in contrast to the harder, shiny beak and scales. The gryphon's face is probably my favourite part overall, the expression looks wonderfully contented and I think the smile on the beak both conveys the expression and looks realistic.

The feather texture looks cool and adds a lot of detail to the piece, especially with the different coloured plumage. One thing I'd perhaps suggest to keep in mind is that I think feathers would likely add quite a bit of thickness to a body part. Looking at the gryphon's arm where the feathers transition to scales, the thickness of the limb seems similar or even a bit smaller on the feathered section. I think if you have a transition like that the feathered area would appear thicker than the unfeathered section. But yeah, very minor suggestion and hardly noticeable.

Anyhow, glad you got over your demotivation, the finished result is something you can definitely be proud of. I think desert was definitely the right choice for the background too and the high contrast split in the lighting was a great idea. Really cool work!

Thank you for your thorough feedback once again!

Hmm yeah, I could have probably made the edges of her body a bit more "poofy", as in just drawing the feathers less flat and pointing outwards more, which would also result in them looking thicker. I'll keep that in mind for the next birb I draw

Also, I just wanna say sorry for slacking on commenting on your art too, I'll try to do that more in the future!

You're very welcome!

Feathers are tough, I feel I've probably shied away from them a bit. I think the general texture and shape of the feathers is pretty good, they'd probably be relatively neatly pressed for streamlined flight. The bit I was mentioning was just at the interface, in that I feel the scaly section of the forearm is a little thick, relative to the feathered upper arm. I guess just a bit of a random proportion thing than a systematic error.

Ah that's totally fine! It's good to have your feedback on my WIPs in our group, but I haven't really been posting much of finished quality on here recently. Seeing the rate you make high polish pictures has made me rather keen to do some more lineless painting myself and try and really apply what I've learned with lineart.

Was a good decision to go with the sandy vibes for the background, it really fits both characters.

Cute goodboi indeed! =o
