Description
This alternate country was inspired from the idea of ''further spread of the Eastern-Romance languages". Rumelian is part of the Eastern-Romance languages, together with Romanian, Megalo- and Aromanian.
Short Historical Summery.
Like their romance neighbors, the rumelians came out as a specified ethnic group somewhere around the V-VI century. Until the end of the VII century the rumelians where ruled by several foreign powers, them being: the nomadic Bulgars, Avars, Huns or in other situations the Byzantines and Goths.
The first mention of a rumelian state came in the middle of XII century, known as the principality of Cravuna (centralized around modern-day north-eastern Rumelia). After that many more petty kingdoms rose to prominence, but non of them where prepared for the new foreign invader, the Ottomans. By 1399 all of modern-day Rumelia was under Ottoman control.
Many uprisings against ottoman rule followed like: the June uprising-1589, Țerenița uprising-1623, October uprising-1667, Central Balkan Uprising-1806 and the Great Eastern Uprising-1853. Following the Great Eastern Uprising autonomy was finally given to the rumelians, an autonomous Vilayet covering all lands between the Balkan Mountain and the Danube river, plus the Sofia field. In 1861 the name if the region was changed to The Principality of Rumelia and in 1878 following the Russo-Turkish war of 1877, Rumelia gained full Independence and declared itself a kingdom.
Following its Independence Rumelia focused on closer ties with Western Europe. Embracing the idea of pan-Latinism and later rumelian nationalism. Though, This process was stoped after the 1921-Officer Revolt, which did overthrow the pro-French and Italian di Savoya dynasty and enthroned the pro-German von Anhalt dynasty, which did rule until 1948.
In 1948 following the December Coup, the monarchy was throw out of power and a socialist republic was established. During this time, Rumelia faced years of intenece centralisation, industralisation, urbanisation and improvement of medical care. The ethnical minorities like Turks and Greeks did face discrimination and even in several National Population Recordings, they were counted as rumelians. The socialist regime did face major national protest throuout 1988 and 1989 and following them, the government finaly cracked and a democratic system was established.
Today Rumelia is a developing member of the European Economic Association, its economy has quadrupled after the fall of the socialist regime, but the country still faces many economic problems like: corruption, economic inequality and economic fraud.
