Kurenai is awesome. I wish we could have seen more of her. It's a shame Kishimoto sucks at handling female characters that aren't Tsunade.
I would've loved to know more about her, her clan (or any clan that wasn't the Uchiha for that matter) and the reason for her strange eyes.

Yeah, they pretty much left you in the dark when it came to Kurenai's clan/family and background.
And what about the Hyuga clan? They at first said that the Uchiha came from them and showed that Kaguya had the Byakugan yet the Byakugan wasn't shown that much and didn't have any other forms while the sharingan had like a hundred.
