"And since I've been into the Zone, I got this name for myself.
My real name is not much of a use right now. I am far away
from home, anyway. I come from the European South.
Since the economic crisis began, things got worse.
Despite my will to cling myself to my country, things have
been less than good.
It was then that I heard about a scientific team, planning to
infiltrate the Zone of alienation around Chernobyl, Ukraine.
Their main goal was the collection of artifacts and the study
of anomalies.
They said that they want to use them on various fields of
science; medicine, finding a new path to power production,
military projects and help our country recover from the crisis,
as well as the rest of the countries.
Those reasons were good enough for me, so I packed up
whatever I found essential, kissed my family goodbye and
started my trip to the Zone, along with some other volunteers.
We were twelve men in total. A big part of them were patriots,
men who served their country well, but never got what they
deserved. Others were just desperate people who came for the
payment. And others came with enthusiasm, hoping to discover
something new, beyond the boring lives they used to lead.
Where was my own place? Somewhere in between, I guess.
We passed the Cordon without any trouble; the scientists
provided us with an experienced Stalker for a guide.
Later on, we were separated in groups of three and followed
different directions. The scientists would make themselves
at home into some bunker, where they would receive info,
artifacts and conduct experiments. For the rest of the trade,
Sidorovich would be our main contact. That shall be a new
chapter in my life, and hopefully, one that shall be fulfilled."
