Description
www.mediafire.com/file/0dx75dt…Procedural three-dimensional fog. Can be compressed into an arbitrary (convex) fog volume. Lots of controls, for good or ill. No rules. Read the readme.
This didn't end up being the best gif. I lost too much color depth. Here are some other pics (from the effect while under development) so you can better see what this effect does:

It's been a long time since I wrote this, I dunno anymore
But IIRC, there's a controller for fog color. Read the readme.

Yeah, I do that sometimes so that I can include Japanese. I like it when Japanese people translate their readmes, figure I can stand to return the favor.

It would probably be helpful if anybody wanted to use any effects that I've ever made, but in my opinion, they're not that good, so I don't think people want to
But, it's principle of it all....

If you didn't know this when you made this gif and haven't learned it in the 17 months since, it would look better with dithering but with increased file size. Ffmpeg can do this with 'ffmpeg -i input.mkv -vf palettegen palette.png; ffmpeg -i input.mkv -i palette.png -lavfi paletteuse output.gif' which uses default dithering options.
(To save possibly less time than it takes to write or process this detail, you could use "trim=0:2,palettegen" instead and the palette gen would be almost as good but much faster)

Thanks, that's interesting. I'll look into that. It makes sense that a larger, dithered gif would look good, although the file size might be larger. I suppose some good layer separation on this file could improve the file size-- most background elements are static, but not in a way that any encoder would be able to see.

You're right. It IS a resource intensive effect. Took my pc several minutes to load it up after I already have raycast up.... and I have a pretty high-up-there pc too
Ryzen 5 2500 - 6 cores 12 threads overclocked to 3.9 GHz
GTX 1060 6 GB
16 GB DDR4 3000 MHz ram
and 970 evo ssd
O.O
WTF did you make???? XD jk
UPDATE:
Not compatible with raycast effect.
If raycast is applied beforehand then you end up with a black preview screen (not frozen nor slowed down for me). You can still see various bones, etc, but you don't see anything else but black.
If I uncheck the display checkbox for the fog in model manipulation, then I can see everything again - my scene, stage, sky dome, raycast, effects, etc.
If load fog first then add raycast, can't see skydome due to enormous size of fog cloud. It blocks out the dome.
Fiddling with the controls in either case as directed in readme does not help with the raycast incompatibility.
I am not willing to try this with ikpolishshader... am afraid it will have the same result.
The bad news: (keep my pc specs in mind)
Takes several minutes to load up the fog
Is not compatible with raycast shader - literally can't see anything but black
The good news:
My fps never dropped below 40 fps after loading both raycast and fog - probably because it doesn't have to show anything but black XD
Fog works as advertised without raycast. I've tried it. Pretty neat as long as you're not trying to go for 3d animation... which is unfortunately what I need.

The load time is because there are a lot of loops-- it basically shoots a ray through every pixel of your scene, and adds up some math values (for each generator) at regular depth intervals for each pixel.
The problem is that the HLSL compilers spend a lot of time trying to see if they can optimize these loops, even though they can't. And it has to get compiled every single time it loads.
Maybe I should delete it. There are better options. It was a good experiment, a good learning process for me, but I can't really imagine other people wanting to use it.

Well, it's slow to load. It's not designed for speed. Are you sure it froze, not just that it took a long time to load?

(Nope it froze it made my MMD screen Freeze and go white and gave me an error message i don't remember what it said though so i had to forcefully close MMD.)

Thank you, that's very nice to hear. I try to make stuff that's ambitious, and I'm just an amateur, just a student, so I think there are probably a lot of problems. If you find some, or if you need an effect to work differently than it does, I'd love it if you let me know, so that I can prioritize fixes.

Of course, as always!
You know, I just hit 100 watchers, and I was kind of laughing, because I see all these people doing "100 watchers gifts"-- but what would I do for a gift? Same thing that I do anyways, lol. But heck, call this the 100 watchers gift.

True, I also see this way of gift for watchers from others, not even me I'm doing that because if I can share something now why wait another time?
