Okay, I'm just as shocked as Rarity. I'm guessing Spitfire had a kid with Soarin and Daring Do had one with Ahuizotl and somewhere along the like their kids had kids with each other. Also nice bit of Daring Don't continuity as she's real in this story.

There must be some missing connecting steps here since this comic happens 80+ years in the future. Whatever kids these four may have had would be either very old if not dead by now. For the descendants to be this young, you need to fit two generations in-between.

Fair point. Add in another quartet of ponies to the base of the tree, though with the other four being so prominent it seems the other ponies involved in the lineage are largely incidental.

Well, this is fantasy writing about technicolor ponies so the genetic probabilities are ultimately whatever the writer needs them to be.
If we tried explaining this using real-world genetics, the number of "incidental ponies" can also be less if the lines get crossed twice; that would explain the strong expression of the great-grandparents' characteristics.
