Quite true, but since the ponies resemble human society and since it is widely adopted that polygamy is not allowed (at least in Europe, Asia and USA, and let's not forget the series is Canadian (continent of North America) and I don't think they allow polygamy there too), you could propably say the same about Equestria.
Fluttershy is a faithful mare, her character just doesn't fit with being with more than one stallion at a time if one of them would be heartbroken then - she is to kind to betray anypony. She can say no, and she will say no if she would hurt one of her friends very badly, especially if it is the stallion she loves (which is not(!) BigMac, that is provable, I don't give a sh*t that you find that "vanilla shipping" cute, it just does not work!!!)
She would wait for her true love to be with him for the rest of her life... And I know who that is...
