Ok I get how Twilight and Rarity and spike have kids that are alive but I don't get Applejack. How did she live for 170 years after the end of season 4?

One hundred years ago, Applejack fell into a dimensional portal (like Twilight in "Equestria Girls" movies). When she returned decades later, I'm guessing that she was probably around the same age as when she left. So she could still be alive in the current story.
Check Part 84 of this story and the epilogue of "To Love God, To Love Mortal".
BTW. When she returned, she may have brought a (human) husband back with her. (By "Equestria Girls" rules he would have turned into a pony.)

Wooo, this is actually a very enjoyable series! I usually have a hard time with post-FIM stories; but this is a fun mix of ridiculous, slice of life, and action with a hint of drama to spice things up. Oh, and I cannot wait to see more of the other characters as well. Lots of intrigue!
