You know, I've thought of something when it comes to Gilda. When she first appeared, she wanted nothing more than to hang out with her long time friend, Rainbow Dash. And when she saw other ponies like Pinkie in her way, she wanted them to go away. While her methods were bad, and being mean to others was unacceptable, Gilda probably felt betrayed at the end. When the party came and she fell victim to every prank she was laughed at, humiliated, and all the while, Rainbow did nothing at all to apologize or defend her friend since she set up the traps. It was a big blow to her and she probably felt like Rainbow had abandoned her, and never cared about their friendship. I blame both Gilda for her bad actions and rudeness, and Rainbow for her lack of thoughtfulness towards one of her first friends.

People change, your friend back then could be enemies today.
Its easier to lose trust than maintaining it, and its even harder to regain lost trust when you did something that they believe is wrong.
If they change for the worse remember what they were not what they are, and if they screw you over give them a whack over the head.
And what you should always remember is that the best revenge is to show that you can live your life well without them.
