The joke is that the writers tried to be clever in their presentation of how different people learn in different ways but if you see the episode and put thought into the mechanics of it (or overthink it depending on how much effort you want to put), it will come off as cute yet overgeneralizing at best or facepalm contrived at worst.

Is this based off of an episode where ponies set up a way for Rainbow Dash to learn the history of Wonderbolts by dressing up and acting things out (and making signs of some sort to bring it all together) on her flightpath?
Because if it is, then the joke here is Rainbow Dash took it all extremely literally. and I laughed.

That's exactly right. And to be honest, if this twist from this comic was actually implemented in the actual episode, at least there would have been a decent laugh out of it all.
But yeah, kudos on the comic writer for pointing out this fridge hilarity.
