Gotta say it, that changling in the last panel... ADORABLE! OH. IDEA! o.o Have the changling disquise himself or herself as a guard pony and follow Twilight around. She is a princess after all, and with Celestia having vanished and Cadence having disappeared through the mirror, ya never know what ponies will think, so let them think there's been a kidnapping attempt on Twilight.

Everypony have their own role. All of them have to play their part. While Heroes have to save the world . Soldier have a duty to take care the kingdom. Make it run smooth under the law. They take care people.

Question being treason for what, all the other guards are gone and if what he can just say that the changeling escaped while Cadence was busy beating the biscuits out of Chrysalis.

Letting a potential enemy go (even ones that may not be evil anymore) could still be seen as an criminal offense against the Royal Guard, the princess and Equestria. The soldier has no authority to let that Changeling leave on its own accord without the say of the Captain of the Guard or one of the princesses.
Besides, that action could come back to 'bite him'!
