And twilight is finally called out on her bullshit. Not just her, but all ponies really.
Would you say a cat or a dog was evil for eating meat? That they should conform to what you view as appropriate eating habits? If you do, you should get your head out of your ass for thinking you can play god. The worst part is .. people actually do that. There have been vegans that try forcing a vegan diet on their pet, which cripples the poor darling or just flat out kills them. Twilight and the ponies have disturbingly reminded me of those exact vegan extremest nutjobs .....
They think because they have magic and such that they can just will the world to conform to their whims. Anything that isn't under their absolutely and complete control is terrifying to them. Even by the end of the series they still kinda have that problem of ponies controlling everything and being the end all be all god race. How can there be true equality of races when it's the ponies who dictate the very weather? The rising of the moon and sun? Ponies have absolute control of the nature around them .... and that is terrifying

And there's the Uno Reverse Card.
And you know, they would if they could. Ponies in general and Twilight in particular have some serious control issues. Remember the spells to stop the parasprites and vampire fruit bats from doing what they do by nature?

Kinda expected him to wake up in a dungeon or something...
And yeah, those are good points. You can't really stop or change someone's true nature. But you can't really blame Twilight for denying him love to feed on.

I never understood why in changeling fanfics this "let the predators do what they want to you or you're a bad pony" argument is so powerful in convincing the ponies they're the bad guys for defending themselves. No, you can't blame the lion for eating meat, but you can't blame its prey for defending itself either. Changelings prey on ponies, ponies defend themselves against changelings. The predator and prey relationship goes two ways.
That's the whole point of Thorax's revolution, he sought to break the predator/prey dynamic and become more symbiotic instead.

Perhaps. But we can presume Chrysalis is the one who took things to a whole new level. Changelings could have continued on stealthily feeding on others and possibly have gone undiscovered for many years more. Chrysalis brought them out into the open by going after such a high profile target in such a public manner. And it's not like they even knew about the "sharing love" option before, at least from what we know.

Oh agreed, it's just that the "you can't blame us, it's in our nature!" argument tends to be used in a way that makes ponies look like the villains for defending themselves, and that always struck me as odd.

Well ... the ponies don't really do themselves any favors. Remember the parasprite and fruit bat fiascos?
Ponies believe they can shape nature to what they decree is "right"
now i can't blame them on the parasprites, but the fruit bats? They were literally just bats trying to survive and happened to find a large food source. Applejack still had plenty of orchard left and Flutters tried to explain that the bats were beneficial in the long run. But what do they do? Oh, just, forcibly make the bats not want to eat fruit via magic. Cause that's oh so ethical --;
The changlings don't seem to really harm those they feed from. Also it isn't like the love isn't gone forever, if it was then Shining wouldn't have been able to pull off the deus ex love bomb with Cadence. In a way it's like a vampire bat.
They feed off blood, taking a little from the prey after making a small scrape to lick blood from. Blood replenishes and in the long run it doesn't harm the animal at all to be fed from. Chances are they won't even notice.
What Twilight and the ponies are trying to do is basically the same as hunting down and starving out every single vampire bat in existence. Shoot on sight. Is it really just "prey defending themselves from a predator" anymore?
To me, it doesn't seem like it. I think the ponies have taken things too far.
i'm rather miffed the MLP decided to go the route of Chrysalis being just evil cause evil. "Oh hey, guess what, you had a way to not starve this entire time! But your queen hid it from you for ... reasons. Idk." and i don't even hate the new changeling designs, i just hate how their 'reformation' was handled. It could have been a good lesson to not villainize a creature based solely on its nature. Which i think is where this comic is going

The parasprite and fruit bat fiascos are honestly more on Twilight and Applejack than ponies in general. But changelings eating love does harm the pony. That was the core reason Chrysalis imitated Cadance to begin with, after all, and in Frenemies we see Chrysalis use it as a weapon. It might not do permanent harm unless the changeling wants it to, but it does harm them. And it is done without permission or knowledge of the ponies in question.
I'm not saying alternatives can be found. Thorax obviously did so, even before the transformation. But justifying taking love by deception or force and casting the one they're feeding on as the villain for doing the obvious and defending themselves strikes me as rather backwards logic. You don't let a starving person justify stealing from you because he needs the money to eat, you find another way to get him the money he needs.
I mean, how have ponies "taken things too far?" By defending themselves against being eaten on against their will? That seems like a perfectly logical action to me, especially when the last time the changelings did so they did it by trying to conquer Equestria. Ponies are perfectly justified in telling a changeling "no, don't get to eat from me" the same way we would be justified in telling vampires no, and also justified in defending themselves if the changelings decide that no doesn't mean no.
As for Chrysalis... well, no matter what resolution they would have come up with, unless Chrysalis was ignorant herself and willing to go along with the resolution and be redeemed, it would have cast Chrysalis as cruel and heartless for denying it to the other changelings. That's just Chrysalis: she's evil, and she relishes it.

Valid point. Must be fans, as they often do, projecting a sense of sympathy for the villains. You know how a lot of em often like the badguys better. Intriguing perspective, poor execution. The classic storytelling blunder.

I see where you’re coming from and you make very good points but you have to remember that this isn’t a basic predator/prey situation, this is a parasite/host situation. Most parasites do not want to kill the host because that would end their food source, this is why you can have multiple parasites go undetected even if they are not benefiting or causing minor damage to you. I think the whole reason of bringing up the “I need to eat too” argument is because sometimes we forget that we’re not the only things that need to eat. Putting it in perspective helps but doesn’t mean you can’t protect yourself from it. For example if I yell at someone because I was having a bad day and I just got irritated over something little, having a bad day explains my actions but it isn’t a pass to be rude to other people over something minor. The The counter to this would be ”Sure You’re allowed to eat but as the host/prey (depending on how you want to look at the situation) i’m not going to make it easy. Even ponies have to earn our food through some kind of transaction after performing a task (money, hours of time growing a garden or farming, or bringing up live stock).” If this changeling wants to get good boy points The best way of showing twilight would be explaining that he is completely independent from the queen and is willing to work in exchange for food/love, he isn’t looking for a meal ticket what is looking for a new life.
I really like your argument and it does show some very nice key points. I didn’t see it the way at first but it did open my eyes to the situation to be more sympathetic towards Twilight. Sorry about the Wall of text ÓwÒ

No worries about the wall of texts, discussions are fun!
And agreed, a more symbiotic relationship is what our changeling should be aiming for. I hope Twilight shoots down the "but I need to eat!" argument he's using as an excuse, because that same argument makes Twilight fully justified in defending herself. As long as our changeling is willing to give in return for what he takes, then he has a basis for negotiations.

I agree with that, I feel like twilight and this changeling should have a discussion about this in a logical manner to look at the pros and cons of the situation And come to a mutual agreement that is fair to both parties. Twilight is known to be the nerdy logical scientific type so going along this path seems to fit the most with her character.
Changeling feeding is very strange because changelings are able to communicate fluently with regular ponies. I feel in an unknowing way changelings are greedy because of the common stereotype that they expect to feed no matter what. To a pony a changeling is greedy, but to a changeling a pony is selfish for not sharing. But I’m thinking about this in the sense that changelings have not learned that giving love can be beneficial for them, I’m acting as if this path is specifically not available to them.
If they can figure out how to get over their differences they could work very well together especially because all changelingS seem to have be able to use magic and fly while ponies have a better networking system not to mention there are more chances for variety in strengths.

If we look at just the show, there does seem to be a reason for changelings to be cruel and selfish: according to Chrysalis and Thorax, changelings are always hungry, so being selfless and sharing love would be insane to most changelings. You have to be cruel and selfish, because not being so means losing what little love you have, which as far as they know can only lead to starvation.

Huh I forgot about that part. Changelings are hangry bois lol. That really puts in perspective how much of an outcast thorax would have to be in order to even attempt giving love instead. I mostly just hopeful that the changeling finds happiness. Even though I hate the designs of the reforms changelings (because the colors do not work well together) I do think in a way that was the best outcome for them.
But seriously I wish they kept the same black, blue, and green color palette and filled in the holes in their legs! Not everything has to be colorful dang it! I am super excited for the next scene though. This is going much better than I expected

And remember how your examples all had drastic consequences? Even in this universe, you can't just "magic" something away, change reality itself without there being some sort of backlash. Twilight's meddling with the parasprites and the vampire bats both had unforeseen results that bit her and her friends in the ass hard. You mess with the laws of the universe, and the universe has a way of striking back. Even if she did, there's no telling what would happen to this changeling. Best case scenario, he'd feed on something else in a more destructive way. Worst case scenario, she'd doom him to a slow death by starvation.
