Description I saw this nice place yesterday, while visiting the Riverside Cemetery in Denver.

Unfortunately my lens caused some purple fringing in the picture - I guess I'll soon start looking for a better quality wide-angle lens (using the stock one now) - probably the 18-200mm one.

Thank you! You're right - it was Hoya R72

I love this filter, though my camera is quite insensitive to IR (as you can see by the exposure time)

wow, wish i had your luck with such photos. it's hard to catch the rare places i go to because it goes by in under a second sometimes. glad you immortalized this for everybody!

Thanks! As mentioned in other reply - it was just a pure luck I saw this place. I always tell myself, that you have to walk an extra mile if you want to see something people usually pass undetected

Thank you! And I was just lucky while taking this shot - didn't even know the place existed and it was my curiosity which brought me to the place

nice composition and editing
why so long exposure? is d80 not sensible for ir?
i see you forgot to change the iso, i always try to shoot in lowest iso possible when shooting ir but sometimes i keep forgeting to turn off auto iso, i had to delete a lot of good frames because of it

vazagothic In reply to Sebasket [2007-08-13 18:27:28 +0000 UTC]

Thank you!

The D80 isn't that sensitive (even in the full sunlight as we do have here in Colorado) - but it turned out pretty nice without the wind to blur out the leaves.

As mentioned before - one day I may get another D80 and turn it into a IR only camera ..

I think I was shooting something before and I did set the ISO to 400 (some night shots AFAIR) .. oh well

i can get great effects with as low as 1/2500sec with d50 i would recommend to buy sth more sensitive than u got if you want to make it ir cam

With the Hoya R72 filter ? I can barely see the sun when I look through it so I don't think 1/2500 would be enough to even notice anything.

yes with hoya r72 don't look at the sun through filter it may damage your eye in seconds

I may just wait for Nikon to release new D90 or so and send my D80 to have the hot mirror removed (or give it to my fiancee and get D40/D50/D70 and turn it into IR only

Hey there Are you ever offline ? :-D Just joking Thank you for your comment

Next week I'm moving to Seattle, so you can expect more pictures involving water and plants.

After all, water is pretty scarce here in Colorado and trees aren't popular either.

And to tell the truth - if I had to choose between Colorado and your Australia, I'd have chosen Australia

xD Yeah I am, just I'm signed in all the time. But normally I have nothing better to do. So I come on here while I'm drawing.

And you're welcome. ^^ And awesome!

And Australia isn't all that great. =/ Well what I've seen of it.

amazing..i really like the color; it makes it look really calm. is everything actually that white?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

vazagothic In reply to Andalou [2007-08-12 13:42:59 +0000 UTC]

Actually it was shot with an infrared filter (Hoya R72) with a white balance set up to the foliage, making all the foliage white (or close to it anyway).

The original picture was red (not blue) - I've switched channels (red <-> blue) making it the way it is now.

Nice IR! Overexposed a little though, and could be sharper.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

vazagothic In reply to Poohblah [2007-08-12 13:41:10 +0000 UTC]

I realized that too I saw later that it was shot with the ISO400 (forgot about that while shooting). Also, the 30seconds exposure didn't help with that either.

I like playing with curves a bit - normal photo wasn't that overexposed, but I like the increased contrast. I guess it's a personal thing

One day, when I'll be rich I'll get another D80 and make it IR only One day ...

Poohblah In reply to vazagothic [2007-08-12 14:45:09 +0000 UTC]

if you do it right you can get the high contrast without the overexposure. it's tricky though, and i think it's easiest to do in camera raw. maybe a highlight/shadow adjustment.
