this is a 6 piece body of work. all w/400 speed film and traditional developing. here's the artist statement that i wrote to go with it:
Modern young adult Americans are body obsessed. This generation has been bombarded by a multi-media culture that has told it that physical beauty is the most important ideal. This culture goes on to define a physical beauty standard that is contradictory in nature and therefore unobtainable.
As a part of this generation I too am at battle with my own body image. I have to constantly question my beauty standards and their origins.
I started this project to explore what impact body image plays on real people; to take the hidden thoughts and make those thoughts open and obvious. With this project I have only begun to uncover the impact.
I want the viewer to recognize the impact that body images are playing in people’s lives. I want the viewer to realize the impact their body image and their judgments are making today.
