Description
Today, a thunderstom ravaged Newport resulting to a wide flooding. Newport International Airport Expressway was severely flooded and stalled numerous vehicles. The Department of Public Works - Toll and Thoroughway Committee announced that NIAX will be temporarily closed down due to high level of flood. Exit and Entry Ramps were closed down by the Newport Police Department - Highway Patrol Unit.

NFD and NPD responded to a distress call from a Metro Bus reporting that their bus stalled and waters are increasing rapidly. NFD E-90, L-123, Batt-18 responded immediately but waas delayed due to a traffic backup stretching 5 miles from Pineway Ramp, wherein E-90, L123, Batt-18 is located. NPD arrived on-scene and sets up safety perimeter and cleared the right most shoulder to give access to emergency vehicles. Upon arrival, thd NFD assessed the situation and requested the NFD Scuba unit to respond and requested the NPD to give special access to the emergency vehicle using the southbound lane to avoid being stucked in traffic.

NFP successfully evacuated 49 passenger and the driver of the bus. Upon evacuation, they were assessed by NFD-EMS and were later on transported by Mobile Evacuation Transport Unit up to Pineway Ramp wherein Metro Bus is waiting for them to be transported to the nearest transport terminal and were given food and refund of transport fee.
