a new friend :0c shes very heavily inspired by my friend ToxicToothpick 's character design aesthetics, belton and his work have been soft on me for a long time on the ol webzesme is a dragon whos simply known as hidalgo, as her first name is well guarded just enough for her liking. hidalgo is posh, decadent, kind of snobby and greedy as dragons tend to be; her living is primarily made through catering to the well traveled sensibilities of merchants and dignitaries, human and nonhuman alike. her desert suited hide is thick and rough like her personality, but shes got a bit of a warm underbelly for the few people she actually takes a fancy to
she lives in a world setting thats a bit of a steam and dieselpunk fusion only without the obnoxious shitty gears pasted haphazardly onto everything and steampowered giraffe nonsense

heres some good ones i guess?? its a lil tricky to find photos of them out of the water fully visible without it necessarily being dissection pictures, and i hesitate to show dissections to people who dont specifically ask for them bc idk how everyone reacts to gory imagery

I had to draw a big naga snake lady with a hookah for a character trade one time and it was honestly so fun. The craftsmanship on those things are amazing, this local persian grocery store has them after the registers and I like looking at them.
Family friends that I would hang out with would smoke hookah when I was younger and I would often be in the same room so I've probably gotten my fair share of second hand smoke ahahaha. They oft got like, fruit and mango flavored tobacco though and the smoke never made my nose or throat burn the way cigarettes do. idk maybe one daaaaay. I'm more interested in essential oil diffusers (like Monq if you ever heard of that) atm bc I don't wanna mess with nicotine.Β

yeah I know it gets annoying af when my dad is smoking at the table (outside yard table) while we have guests or my bf is over bc I don't particularly like it and I KNOW my bf is against smoking but he is far too polite to ever say anything or move away rip.
I haven't gotten any oil diffusers yet, I wanted one of those teeny Monq ones but I doubt I can get them, at least not rn ;0;

Oh my god, this character shape is just so incredible. Even her outfit is excellent. I've accepted that at this point I'm going to be forever impressed by your use of shapes and posture in your designs.
Also I have a dapper saltwater crocodile OC who runs a bar, so seeing another scaly business owner is 10/10 awesome stuff

How thick are her bottom clothing? I'm surprised not to see those scale bump under the tight clothing. Beside my curiosity, I really like the silhouette of this character, it give me sense of her weight, a peek of what type of character she is, and it's fun to look at. Well job done.

Ah, okay! I got the impression that her bottom part of fabric were thin because of those deep straight black creases around her crotch and starting base of her tail. I'd expect to see fewer and more vague creases on thicker fabric. Possibly some gentle "U" creases.

You tend to draw a mixed style of cartoon, naturalistic and with tiny bit of droplet of realistic. *nods* I'm not saying that you have to go full-on details with all of those spikes under that pant. That would be overwhelming and I know it's not how you roll with art!
I'd expect maybe some vague wobbly edge lineart around her thighs. Or the the other way around like what I said about creases earlier.

nah, its like. thick puffy padded shit for her pants. i have the sketch overlays still, and i actually kinda padded out the pants so that they are wider/bigger than her actual thighs and the spines on them

I didn't notice that you gave it some padding underneath the pant, hmm. To be fair, I suck at understanding the sense of spatial stuff and I would miss that out by observation without the tool to compare both.
That pant is like a velvet pant in some sense of it? I googled for some references of winter pant, velvet pant, just to observe and compare on how they folds and work against the skin. Now I am starting to understand the fabric after noticing the external lineart folds on her crotch and knee.

i love it. especially the steampunk aspect.
I feel like her skin is noduled but soft like a leapord gecko, and her voice sounds like Nora Wakeman from my life as a teenage robot. Its fun/easy for me to visualize both a 2D and a 3D model/format with her moving a catering to her entoxicated patrons.
