Hey, it's not so bad, that's actually how some people start learning a language and get it to stick. Translating stuff with online tools, pointing out where it doesn't make sense. Good on you for making an effort to learn!

I'd look into Duolingo tho, their Japanese course is in late beta, should be good enough. Estoy estudiando español with their help and not only is it effective, it's even fun!
