Description
Welcome to another tutorial on drawing Comics & Manga. This time around, we'll be covering the subject of Body Language. Body Language is probably one of the most important & often over looked tools in an artist's arsenal to make the characters & story believable to readers. I've drawn a couple of familiar faces to cover examples of different Body Language.First, we have the "World's Finest" combination of Batman & Superman just standing there demonstrating to different ends of the spectrum when it comes to Body Language. Batman is a dark & mysterious character who is always thinking, brooding & analyzing the situation, so I drew him slouching to suggest that he's always got a trick up his sleeve(or cape in this case). Super Man on the other hand, always stands tall, strong & proud. Ever the iconic symbol of all that is good. He's a boyscout. Characters like him & Captain America always stand tall & proud. They never have bad posture, unless someone's beaten them to the point where they can't stand straight.
Next, we have Spider-Man shrugging his shoulders with his hands up as if he were just asked a really tough question that he couldn't possibly know the answer to. I drew this Spidey in this pose to show how important Body Language is in a story because you can't always tell what a character's feeling from looking at their face. An awesome example of this are the early issues of Deadpool from Marvel Comics. Ed McGuiness truly is a master of Comic Art & it shows in these issues. If you haven't seen his DA account, you're missing out! It's "skage.deviantart.com"
Lastly we'll cover the more savage type of characters, & what better psychopath to demonstrate this than Venom? Well there is Sabretooth, but he's dead & I felt like drawing Venom, so there! Characters like this are usually always arching their backs like this to suggest that they're always wound too tight & could spring at a moment's notice, giving them an edge of suspense & unpredictability. It also gives the reader a sense of how large these types usually are when compared to their enemies. Even hunched like this, Sabretooth & Venom tower over Wolverine & Spider-Man, giving them a big bully type of feel to them.
Well, I hope this tutorial can help. Try drawing some of your favorite characters using these methods & I'm sure you'll see some sort of improvement. I want to thank & give credit to dragonoflightning for the pencilling assist on Batman & Superman!

Of Course! There's a bunch of more stuff to cover when it comes to sequential art. But I really need to concentrate on my comic. I'm actually @ a week behind schedule on it.

Sweet!! Aw man, sorry you're behind on your comic; maybe you should get that back up to speed before we do more tutorials. Maybe... it's up to you, though.
