From there, she either moves into a figure-four headscissors from behind or a reverse facesit/jackknife pin depending on her mood.)

Description: A curvaceous killer in the ring, Christiane’s dark-tanned body hides deceptive strength and athleticism with monster thighs built by speed skating and a little roller derby. Striking with her snowy locks and lethal smirk, her mix of talent, looks and attitude ensure she’s a burgeoning fan favourite. Her ring gear doesn’t hurt either, meshing form, function and fishnets in red and black.

Basic Bio: Christiane Zéphirin has lived most of her life in the shadow of her big sister.

Understanding why requires a slight understanding of her family’s dynamics. Her father, a French-Canadian businessman, was travelling on business when he met her mother, a Korean Canadian from a very traditional wealthy household in Toronto’s Korean community. It was a whirlwind romance, one that her parents thoroughly disapproved of, but one that seemed strangely destined to work despite (or perhaps because of) the apparent lack of common ground between them.

Until it didn’t.

Their first daughter was conceived and born during the honeymoon period of their marriage, when they were as much in love as they would ever be. Christiane, by contrast, was born years later. By then, the arguments were near-nightly, her father was taking business trips at every excuse and her mother was being left to pick up the pieces.

That would have been bad enough. And then her father turned out to be sleeping with another woman when she was three, and when he was caught he walked out on his whole family.

So yes. That was a great start.

Her mother took her two daughters and moved back to her parents in Toronto. To a much more traditional Korean family environment than the one to which her children had been accustomed.

Sandy, the older sister, had it better. She was a memory of better times as far as her mother was concerned, meaning Sandy was the apple of her eyes. She was physically closer to what her Korean grandparents (and the circles they moved in) considered the beauty standard, being tall and slim from time spent ballet dancing and paler of skin with dark hair. And, while sporty in her own right, she was more adept at behaving like a lady when circumstances required it.

Christiane, by contrast, was a reminder of her father’s infidelity. She had his eyes and his smirk, while her dark skin, blonde hair and thicker build made her stand out in the expensive private schools her grandparents sent her. As for her behaviour, she was anything but ladylike; her interests were speed skating and, when she was old enough, roller derby. At first, in the junior league then, when she turned 18, the big leagues. Not to mention that, where her mother would have her turn the other cheek to bullies, Christi’s preferred method tended to be hip-checking them.

You might think that this would drive the two sisters apart. But it did the opposite: it made them almost inseparable. Even when Sandy headed off to college, they Skype’d almost every night. Then, when she went into wrestling school after a year instead, Christiane supported her all the way just as her big sis supported her at every roller derby match she was in.

And if neither of them had grown up to be the young ladies their mother wanted, they were happy. Christi even began to consider following in her big sister’s footsteps, to the point she started taking wrestling lessons when she was 17. At first, it was because she thought it might help with her roller derby and then it was just because she enjoyed it. After a while, she added some boxing and kickboxing too.

Which was why she was there on that night.

The night her sister’s career ended on what should have been the greatest high of her life.

She probably would have been anyway, but Sandy had invited Christi there to meet her trainer, some of the other fighters, that sort of thing.

Instead, she got to watch her sister stretchered to the back.

The very next day, Christi signed up for full time wrestling training with extra lessons whenever and wherever she could get them. If anything, she proved to have more potential than Sandy, or perhaps she just had that little bit more motivation. Soon enough, she’d found herself a mentor.

Asami Kusanagi had been a main eventer in her native Japan but had recently moved to the US as both a trainer and a scout for a federation. She happened to be visiting the gym and saw Christi working out and then sparring with a few other students. She took an interest in her, then once they started to talk, a liking to the youngster and soon enough she had taken Christi under her wing.

Soon enough, Christiane was putting her advantages to much better use in the ring. Her roller derby toughness, her devastating close quarters brawling, her ability to just bodyblock even larger opponents, her trademark low kicks and the near-impossibility of trying to move her when she didn’t want to be moved. Add her grappling and pro-wrestling training into the mix and she was soon becoming one dangerous rough-and-tumble combatant.

Soon enough, her talent and Asami’s support got her a shot at a place in the AWCC and she aced it with flying colours despite being the unannounced underdog of the tryouts.

Now, it’s on to her debut match and then the world’s her oyster. Let’s see how that turns out for her…
