Reading the Wicked novel has, unlike the musical, warmed me up more to the Elphaba/Fiyero pairing (which, if I'm to be honest, is really the *airquotes* canon pairing anyway -_-)I started this in Shi Painter, but an unfortunate safety save compelled me to complete the thing in Corel .. a program I normally stay far away from on account of it TERRIFIES me.

This is absolutely lovely. The book did turn me more to Elphie's side of it all rather than Dorothy.

I read the novel first and, because of what happens between them and what ultimately happens to Fiyero, I couldn't bring myself to see the musical. Musicals, by their nature, tend to make things... louder and more flamboyant, and I was depressed for ages after reading that bit. XD So. I just couldn't do it.

Very sweet.
Fiyero's a much more enjoyable character in the book, although for what' it's worth Gregory Maguire himself stated that it was his intention to leave the story rather open to the idea that Glinda and Elphaba could end up together if things had just played out a little differently so really, either pairing is quite acceptable. Fiyero and Elphie's just the one that ended up getting fleshed out a bit more.

Indeed, quite observant! Maguire also confirmed that there was indeed a homosexual link between Elphie's father (totally blanking on his name right now) and Turtle. At least, from the father's side. As I understand it, Turtleheart did not share a mutual attraction with him.

It's just assorted information I picked up from reading commentary from the actors in the musical, "making of" videos and word from other fans.
I do know the comment about Elphie and Glinda was first brought up when Wicked the musical began to stir up the whole Gelphie romance, and some purist fans were saying it didn't fit the book, which earned some comment from Maguire himself on how he saw no reason why Glinda and Elphaba couldn't have been together except that circumstances simply didn't transpire that way.
Nothing to quote as gospel, but good enough to satisfy me.

stumbled across this old submission of yours- I love that you didnt fill in the diamonds. everyone makes them rediculously big and solid. Just strikes me as not right. I love that you did a fieryo elphy pic, their coupling is the pivital part of the story

I loved the book and the musical (though I haven't watched it, I just own a CD) and I loved this picture!!!
I'll probably regret saying this, but when Fiyero left Glinda, I was kinda sad, until I realized he was going to Elphie....
