Loud thunder boomed overhead, rain pouring down so hard that it almost made it impossible to see further than a few feet in any direction. It was almost like standing right under a waterfall, the blanket of white and needle-like sting that came with the water falling at too high a speed. Velvet’s hair and fur were completely soaked, tails curled around her body in a vain effort to keep herself warm as she walked to who knows where. Her sense of direction wasn’t quite as keen as some of the other Order members. Not covered by her hair, her left eye shown a bright red, looking around for some sort of landmark that would point her the right direction.

The small Vulpurr shivered, upon seeing the sky darkening she’d expected a sandstorm- given the lands dusty terrain- but instead they got a rare downpour. The dry dirt turned to mud and the whole place was likely going to be a treeless swamp for a little afterwards.. heck, it was a swamp now. Her small form had trouble trudging through the mud, as it was quite deep in some places. At least the rain meant the mud had been washed from her pelt each time it managed to find purchase there.

Ryuk trudged through the mud. His dark coat turned almost midnight black in the downpour, though the glowing fire-like markings along his body sizzled and steamed in the rain. He kept his head low.. Not caring that his hair trailed slightly in the mud under him, but sniffling for any hint at a possible meal.
Why did food have to run from rain? It was sky water - harmless.
The Legendary mix didn't understand.. And he hated water.
A scent caught his attention, faint.. Covered up by rain and mud, but still there. He glanced forward with his red eyes, a slight smirk tugging at the corner of his mouth as he crouched low and began to stalk towards what he thought would be a satisfying meal.

She couldn’t see or smell anything- the rain and mud muddled her senses and it wasn’t until she ended up face first in the mud again that it was clear the area was too deep to walk in. Quicksand to sinkholes she supposed- because looking down.. her two front legs had both sunk all the way into the thick muck. Velvet felt her frustration simmer down before boiling into a panic. No matter how hard she tugged she just couldn’t get herself out this time, and using her back paws as leverage had cause them to sink in as well.
She couldn’t move any of her legs , no amount of squirming seemed to help.. though as least it wasn’t making her sink any faster at this point. But the good two inches of water was uncomfortably close to her mouth now, being at throat level. A small, scared whimper left the little Vulpurr as she stopped struggling- it was pointless at this point wasn’t it? And she didn’t have any moves that could get her out of this situation. The mud may as well have been a tar pit because there was no getting out from what she could see. Caught up in her deadly dilemma, she failed to notice an approaching shadow or even the faint glow that accompanied it- but in the rain she probably wouldn’t have anyways.

The Houndoom mix perked up, hearing a small sound in the pattering of the rain. His lips curled into a silent snarl as he ducked low again, spotting a figure in the mud. The figure was small, motionless, but breathing.

Small.
Too small to be a meal from the look of it.. Better to leave it to the scavengers after the storm.
He padded along. His large paws easily displacing the mud and moving before the suction could get a grip. He froze, glancing over at the Vulpix mix with slitted pupils. Small... A child. His fur bristled slightly at the thought, spurring forth yet more steam from his fiery markings.
"Hold still.." His voice was a low rumble as he walked out into the deeper water, biting at the scruff of her neck to drag her out.
She might've been too small for a meal, but she was too young to die like this.

Velvet let out short, quick breaths in her panicked state- she didn’t want to die, but there was nothing to be done about it.. and that was the worst part. Knowing what was going to happen but being helpless to do anything about it. Her ears perked up though, upon hearing what vaguely sounded like pawsteps. None of her companions would be out in this weather... at least she would hope not… which meant whoever was prowling around was a stranger- but she wasn’t even able to move her head to see at this point, and her hair sloppily covered most of her face anyways.

Hearing a deep voice break the rain’s torturous melody, the small Vulpurr froze, blood running cold. In her panicked state the voice sounded anything but friendly- it almost rang like a threat in her ears. A startled, scared cry left the small creature as she felt a pair of jaws shut around the back of her neck, body automatically curling in on itself.. At this point she couldn’t tell if she was shaking from the cold or out of fear. She didn’t want to drown in mud but she didn’t want to be eaten either! Her first instinct was to bite at whoever it was, but in her position she couldn’t reach whatever was holding her.
Then it occurred to her that she was being held- not eaten. It didn’t stop her shaking and it didn’t stop the anxious whimper that slipped past her muzzle. Should she say something? Velvet wasn’t quite sure- there wasn’t really anything for her to say? ‘Thanks’? This thing may well still try to eat her or something, so she settled for a lack of words.

Ryuk waded out of the mud, trotting along for a little while until he was sure the sinkhole was far behind them and only then did he set the Vulpurr down. He fixed his gaze on the small figure in front of him. He should just leave..
Instead, the Houndoom mix found himself leaning down to get a better look at her. Red and white fur smeared and matted with mud. Fire type or no, she would freeze if he just walked away. Why shouldn't he?
He huffed.
A short, gruff sound that sent another plume of steam softly hissing into the rain as he looked around. Water didn't much bother him - it would burn right off due to his legendary heritage. He squinted as he grumbled quietly to himself, a sound reminiscent of distant thunder. Carefully, he bent down and picked the Vulpix mix back up out of the rain, heading off to find some form of shelter.
Fire type or no, finding firewood wouldn't do either of them any good if it was just put out by the heavy downpour and mud.
