Description
Harlow did not like this, did not like this at all!The Barrage Blacktip naga, his candy apple red scales gleaming brightly in the dim light glared and scowled for all his worth, protectively pressed against his family. Liane, his beautiful mate, the love of his life didn't seem worried, her eyes only focused on the tiny forms that seemed to sleep in her arms. Their twins, tiny, unexpected little lives that came so close to not entering the world like their other two children. Trapped within their eggs, half crushed by their shared shell, their emergence had had to have been helped, and even now, they laid exhausted almost to the point of death within her loving arms. Harlow was sure, without help from their impromptu saviour the tiny yellow hatchlings likely wouldn't have lived very long after their first breathes. Even now, their lives were still at risk, but every minute they continued to rest and breath their chances slowly increased. Still, he couldn't relax, or let down his guard for even a moment.
Harlow's light eyes, gleaming a greenish yellow in the dim narrowed as he watched the other naga, this stranger who had found them out in the storm with their newly hatched infants and offered help and shelter to the exhausted family. Harlow hadn't known much kindness since they had become trapped on this hostile world. They had been hunted like monsters by the human natives of this world, forced from the few safe zones. The land itself even seemed determined to end the little family. Lately they had gone from harsh wastelands, lacking in food and water to what had seemed like a promising swampy marshland. However this place had proved worse then the wastes, where the biggest threats had been the sun and the occasional human hunter. Here, everything changed. The bigger they had travelled the bigger the plants and animals had gotten, and safe places steadily dwindled as they desperately tried to find a safe place to raise their babies. Before either adult had known it, they found themselves seeking sparse shelter within the branches of a cypress tree, staring down fearfully at the monstrous crocodile below, wind and rain lashing the pair as they tried to shelter their newly hatchling offspring with their own bodies against the cold and wild weather, their tiny distressed cries wrenching at their parents hearts.
It was there that the biggest creature either of them had ever seen had emerged from the darkness. Harlow's heart had almost stopped when he had seen the gleaming white mask the creature had worn, thinking in horror in that moment that some undead monster, half crocodile and half monstrous snake had found them. The living crocodiles had seemed to flee as it neared, and Harlow fought down every instinct as the creature had loomed over their hiding place to do so as well. Harlow had banished his claws, determined to go down fighting to defend his family, even from a threat he knew he couldn't possibly beat, when Liane had placed a calming hand on his arm and urged him to look closer.
Only then did Harlow see the kindly green eyes staring at at them from the eye sockets of the mask, which had been removed shortly afterwards to reveal the features of what turned out to be a giant naga and not an some undead demon. That had brought a little relief, but the candy red naga hadn't let down his guard, even as the giant naga used his terrifying mask to block the rain as best he could over the little family. Harlow had tensed further, still ready to spring as those giant green eyes had focused on the little crying hatchlings, and the egg that weakly shook in Liane's arms with a worried expression. Only then did the naga speak, his voice softened to a point that could only just be heard over the rain, asking if they needed help.
It was Liane, in all her great wisdom who said yes.
That had been hours ago, and the little family now rested on a tree stump that must have come from a tree even larger then the one they been carried from. They were dry and warm, although Harlow for the first time in his life felt...small. The giant naga's home was built up high in a large crop of mangrove trees, high above the water and mud. His eyes lingered on walls covered in plants, both giant and normal, as well as flasks and bottles that also differed greatly between these sizes. There was also a massive cauldron tucked near a leaf covered window that Harlow had been convinced they'd wind up within before Liane managed to calm him down. From what Harlow had gathered the giant naga was some sort of healer, he had explained about all the plants he had were for healing, although Harlow had still been skeptical. Liane had believed him, and perhaps that was the only reason Harlow let him near their struggling egg. Liane, even if sometimes native to a point, was an amazing judge of character. She seemed to know this man wouldn't hurt them.
Harlow wished he could trust as easily as she could sometimes...
The giant naga, who had introduced himself as Vincent had turned from them for a time to mix something from his many flasks soon slithered back around to the little family, carrying a massive bowl that Harlow had a sneaking feeling was made from bone. A liquid, looking like thick, cloudy water at a glance within. Harlow found himself snarling as Vincent came to a stop in front of them, lowering the bowl to their height. At a closer look there were hints of blues and purples within the liquid.
"This should help your little ones, a little of this will bolster their strength." He explained in that same soft tone of voice, seeming to be aware that his voice at normal volume might hurt their ears. Harlow narrowed his eyes further, not liking the patient look the man seemed to have directed mostly at him.
Liane pressed closer against Harlow, seeming to know he was getting distressed again. Her gentle eyes and touch always calmed something within the red naga.
"Thank you..." Harlow managed to grunt out as Vincent smiled deeper before placing down the bowl beside them.
Yeah, Harlow didn't like this at all...

Hi everyone!! Look what I managed to draw and write up XD Ah, I've reached a bit of a block lately, so when I got inspired to draw this I had to go with it.
This picture shows when Fortitude's cousin Harlow and his mate Liane encounter a massive swamp naga named Vincent, who is the one who had helped their little twins Milly and Tilly survive past their hatching. They are rare twins born from the same egg, which can tend to cause problems to the hatchlings as they grow. The poor family hadn't been having it very good by this point, being driven from territory to territory as their eggs drew close to hatching. And they ended up hatching in one of the worst places possible in that world. There are places were nature has turned monstrously wild, where plants and animals grow giant. The Great Swamp, where the family ended up is a place at in the middle one such place, bordered by the sea, the Wastelands and the Great Forest. All are dangerous, but none quite as uniquely as the swamp.
This is the place that Vincent the Giant Swamp Naga makes home.
This naga is quite mysterious, acting as a bit of a sharman for those who come across him. For all the danger of this place there are still people who make their homes in the Swamp, and he is the one they tend to go to for healing, tending to normal folk and giants alike. He is young to the role, but takes to it quite naturally. As much as Harlow is mistrusting of him, Vincent is quite safe and truly wants to help the little family.
Harlow's just a protective grump XD
Anyway that's all for now, I've been wanting to draw something like this for a while ^^ I adopted Vincent's design a while back and always had plans on exactly how I would use him, just never drew him. I told my sis about him the other day, how I wanted him to be the one who helps the little family, and she was the one who suggested that I maybe make him giant, and low and behold I couldn't resist XD
I have surprisingly few giant characters
Vincent's design was adopted from
As always I hope everyone is doing well, I'm heading to bed as its midnight where I am and can't think well XD There is half a chance I might rewrite some of this when I get up, I have a sneaking suspicion I didn't write it up the best. I'll also try and respond to comments and notes tomorrow to. Ciao for now!
