Reminds me of the 3D graphics they used in TF: Energon - it's a 3D rendering giving off a 2D effect. Very nice.

Yeah, usually called cell-shaded. The shading with those can easily be seen that their computer generated. I'm trying to create a look that doesn't look computered generated, shading wise. I think with the softer shadows it looks a bit organic/natural, compared the calculated shadows in Energon.

I see what you mean. It is definitely more realistic with the softer shadows. The graphics in Energon was the first thing that came to mind, but the more I look at this, the more I say it's done the same/similar way they did these mecha [link] .
