Description
Drawing of an Advanced Lightweight Fighter (ALF) that I came up with this morning...Powered by a single F135 afterburning turbofan, it is essentially a JSF rival that ditches both STOVL and carrier capability into a simpler, more cost effective fighter. Since it doesn't need to be a be-all, do-all jet like the F-35, I can focus on bringing weight down and increasing performance. Since it is F135 powered it will not supercruise, but it will still reach Mach 2 at 30,000 ft, while will have supersonic performance at low level due to the F135. Like the F-35A, it will carry an internal GAU-22 4 barrel 25mm Gatling gun, but unlike the F-35A, it will carry six air to air missile internal instead of four. It also is intended to be significantly more agile than either the F-35 or F-16. Price would be fairly cheap for a 5th gen fighter, around $80,000,000 USD, which makes it cheaper than all other 5th gen fighters, along with many 4.5 gen fighters also.
Expect this bad boy to become 3d in the not too distant future...

Good thing the X-32 gets some consideration in the design. I find it funky, but capabilities seem sound.

Hehe, thanks. Yeah, I was indeed inspired by the X-32. Dunno why, but the X-32 looked sorta cool to me...

I'm with you on that one. Had the STOVL capability been left out, I would have gone with the X-32 or the BAe/McD JSF design. The X-32 was definitely an awesome plane. I liked the A personally as the winglets made it look better.
