Description
A bit of a remake to my old one.Was learning a bit of color theory's and use this for practice. Been wanting to try him for a while. Changed his eyes white, I was thinking to keep it that way for like a style like batman's eyes. I think it pops up a lot but if you guys think red looks better just comment below. Well took me about 2 or 3 days to finish so hope you guys like it

His face looks quite a little distorted.Β Β but you've done great with colors though.Β Β
I also love the details.

Cool work that armour (especially the chest piece) and face looks great! If I could point out the perspectives of the gun, the barrel and grenade launcher (I'm assuming) look a bit flat and the buttstock and handle are slightly bent away from the rest of the gun.

I have to say I did like from that red color on his eyes, it was quite fitting and made him seem more bad ass, but have to say that I really do like from his armor already. I'd prefer its a symmetric one like both shoulders would have same pads but well up to others what they indeed like I'm just sharing my thoughts. I do really like from the details of his armor too and hope in fact to see more of this bad ass Rex more ^^

I appreciated your opinion, and your right! I was thinking to have it symmetric, when I get back to him I well see what can I do for this guy. Am not sure aboutt eh red eyes, am still thinking between that but well see when I start improving him later on the future. Thanks

I don't mind the head... In my opinion it's a little... Small... But still i like it, the only thing i believe could use a little more detail is the Armour. Put a little ammo pouch here and there. A utility belt holstering smokes or grenades, Pistols or high explosives. perhaps a Pistol ammo belt around his fore-brace (if he has one) That sort of thing makes it look better equipped
As for the colours. I love them The background looks good, correct me if I'm wrong. It looks like some sort of facility/bunker?

More of a Facility and I like the idea of the equipments you mention. I was thinking to add a rocket launcher to have that "Nemesis" feel to it (Resident Evil 3) [link] just for a touch but I don't know if that well look over the top just because his a dinosaur. xD

You should prolly use a reference for the gun next time, or spend a lot more time in perspective, cuz the perspective with the gun is all kinds of wrong, which is fine, it's hard to do, still makes it wrong.
Since you're especially using what I believe is an M16A4, the foresight is INCREDIBLY large, scale it down to what it actually is IRL. The magazine bends forward, towards the end of the gun, not to the stock. Your M203 Grenade Launcher has no visible triggering mechanism, and I'm not gonna take the Sci-Fi reason of "he does it mentally" or that there's a secret trigger somewhere. You chose military sci-fi as a theme, so I have, and others will, have expectations on how things will work. Double check your reference (if you don't have one, get it) of this M16 variant and redraw it.
The scale texture on Rex's face. Nice effort, but you didn't massage it, so you made his face look flat. The scales aren't in perspective and are not hugging the volumes of Rex's head. In this case, I'd say just straight up paint it in.
I see a lot of soft-round brush usage to simulate contre-jour. Don't do it again, use a painterly brush next time to do that. Trying to paint them in with not a soft-round all the time will bump this up from "meh, hobbyist" to "this person is trying to be awesome, and I can see his effort coming through"
Left shoulderpad, there's some rim lighting on the bottom of it . . . coming from WHAT light source? The middle of the shoulder pad? Then the inside of the raised rims should be lit, not the bottom. Stop painting these T-Rex Anthros, and please, PLEASE, do some value still-life studies like one of the other ctrlPaint-ers ([link] )
This whole painting is average, but it's clear that you are capable of doing better. Do some still life studies, and to help with your anatomy, do figure drawing studies and/or take figure drawing classes, so your anthros will make sense like [link] . If you're gonna mash a dino's head on a human's body, that human body better look just as good as the head, or you'll have a bad time.
Still Life Studies.

Thanks for the Critique! again I appreciated your time
Yeah still have to do Valve studies, I get a little habit of making weird T-Rex/Human stuff xD (I love Dinosaurs) Life drawing still part of me that am practicing. Also am not sure if [link] is a way to go to practice bit of anatomy? Or Still life studies are lot better I guess.

Do your value studies. Remember what you said last time? "I'll check up on it" instead of "I'm going to DO them" This was what I was afraid of.
Pose Maniacs has bad usability, imo, and is more useful as a muscle anatomy checker than anything else.

Nude figure drawings, which also includes understanding gesture, anatomy, and form. And if you're gonna commit to this, and assuming you're not going out of your way to find a proper figure drawing class somewhere in Canada, pick up a copy of Andrew Loomis' "Figure Drawing for All It's Worth" on Amazon before it goes out of print again. This stuff costed $300 or something before they were printing it out again this year, so pick it up, read, and pour over all it has to tell you. And apply what you see there to your personal studies.
Also, pick up a copy of "The Skillful Huntsman" so you can get a better understanding of the concept/illustration process of Entertainment Design, so eventually, you can draw better looking anthros that would be worthy of sticking in a God of War 4 art book.
Don't check, DO.
Do.
Do.
Do.
now.

also, try literally blocking in you values is large, broader strokes, instead of the more blurry way you seem to be doing you values. You may say it's not a dodge/burn brush with a soft round, but you can achieve better results with a soft round, opacity based on pressure, and a tablet.
And if you don't have a tablet, pick up a Bamboo. It's cheap, and is more or less as good as the Intuos3 line.

Well I do have a Tablet, the only problem with that is am sharing with my brother but am getting it back in about 2 weeks when he gets to my place, I did some practices on it -> [link] But not enough on it.
I see your really checking up on me, I like that! I'll do some and give you some samples. And thanks for the books you shown! I really need something to practice on especially on figure drawing. I did a class on it about 1 year and a half ago and change the way I draw a lot. Much better than I use to draw but the classes were not long enough to practice sadly :/ So well be sure to pick these up to practice at home.
