Finished on 17th of September 2014.See time lapse video -here- .
Alex did not want to risk seeing the picture before getting a printed version of it, hence why I decided to wait with uploading
Alex wanted me to draw his character The Smiler, which is based off a famous roller coaster in a British theme park (Alton Towers) called The Smiler.
He requested his character, full body view front. Rest was up to me. So I came up with a pretty eerie pose and background to accompany this character, thought it to be fitting.
Had a lot of fun actually drawing this character. Because of the freedom I was given I could explore various concepts I have barely touched when drawing. Things like lightning, spotlight and spotlight shading, creepy poses and atmosphere. So yes, very nice experience ^^

Cool reminds me of an idea I had inspired but someone's fan art that the mascot/ avatar for the Smiler was a mutated earlier test subject of the Ministry of Joy.

The Ministry of Joy are the creators of the Smiler. They are an evil organisation like the Umbrella corporation. There was a scarefest event at Alton Towers last year called Sanctuary where they kept all the "failed experiment"

Ofcourse I dont know the roller coaster, so I cant comment on the resemblance, but I do like the atmosphere of the drawing! especially the distorting shadows is something creepy which I recall form my childhood nightmares! so great job on that one!

And yes, I tried indeed hard on the shadow-drop that comes from the character. Many trial-and-errors, but I'm glad it's so creepy it reminds someone of their nightmares xD
Though I hope it wasn't a traumatic experience seeing this picture because of the shadow?

This took me way longer to make than anything else so far, but it was worth it, it seemed the commissioner was very impressed/suprosed and happy about it, so totally worth it xD
