Description I know the old Inhumanoids cartoon was pretty lame, but something about it captivated me. I'm currently trying to find the entire series, as it was recently released on dvd. This here is the leader of the Inhumanoids, Metlar. I tried experimenting with photoshop, trying to find a way to color the lave in the background, i'll keep experimenting!!
Anyways, i was rather pleased with how Metlar himself looks, and im currently working on drawings of Tendril and D-compose, the other Inhumanoids, although I'm glad they didn't tend to bath in lava!

This is a pretty cool Metlar image with him busting from the lava...

...but with this pose, I can't help but think this is "Animation Error Metlar" from the miniseries (Where he emerges from the ground...a couple of feet above the airstrip). Still, I love the work you did on the face as well as the mix of scales and muscle.

HAHA!!! Β Animation errors are equal parts frustrating and hilarious to me.

Thanks a bunch!

Wow, he looks seriously mad. What you said gave me a funny mental image. Metlar lunges out of the lava toward you "WHY ARE YOU TAKING A PICTURE OF ME WHEN I'M BATHING!?"

Was the cartoon really THAT lame? I know it could have some goofy moments, but for the most part it was pretty interesting!

having rewatched the entire show less than 2 years ago, i gotta say yeah, it was pretty lame....
BUT that does not by any means make it a bad show. I for one, still admire the creators for making such a dark, disturbing, and at times horrifying show.
I would SOOOOO love to recreate this show had i the resources!

I know remakes have gotten a bad rep, but they can work, it all depends on how well they're handled!

SERIOUSLY!!! and then again, sometimes even good ones have a bad wrap... like that He Man remake from a few years ago, i thought it was fantastic... but i was in the minority apparently, lol

True, in many ways, it was at LEAST as good as the original!

thanks...it was the first cartoon that ever gave me nightmares, so it has a special place in my mind, regardless of how godawful it was.. i've been workin on pics of the rest of the inhumanoids but reference of the monsters is slim... im still searching for the series on dvd!

ah! i just bought the DVDs from amazon. there were only 2, rhino was soposed to release the 3rd with the last 4 episodes but they never did

the show wasen't that bad, about average for 80s cartoons, you can tell the writers wanted to do so much more with it but coulden't

i know, I LOVED IT!!!!! I have the first "season" you know that 5 part movie thing... i've been hunting down the rest of the series BUT have had no luck... and yes, the problem was that the writers were plagued with marketing a-holes that wanted them to ride some goofy car that could push toy sales through the roof instead of focusing on the darkness of the monsters, THE SHOW WAS FREAKIN AMAZING FOR ITS TIME!!.... if yu could look past the whole horribly animations, lack or model sheets, brainscraping voices and the fact that auger looked like professor x!

Excellent work on the picture. I didn't think anybody remembered this show. I realy like how Metlar came out looking and nice effects on the lava.

A few minor tweaks could be made though. The hand that's crushign the stone ledge or tree would probably look better if you could only see the two fingers closer to him and let the ledge go to the edge of the picture. Also, it looks a bit too grainy compared to the rest of the picture.

Verbasan In reply to AlanBates [2005-10-04 19:53:09 +0000 UTC]

thanks for the comments! as far as his hands go, he only had 4 fingers... and they are sort of the same distance from the viewer. Im afraid you're gonna have to explain what you mean... like a different over all angle of the hand etc?
And as far of the grain... i suck at photoshop, my apologies and i agree wholeheartedly with you on that one!

I guess that didn't come out as clearly as I meant it to. Anyway, since I really can't think of anyway to say it more cleary, let me scribble real quick.

I mean something like this.

OOOHHHH ok, i see... actually that does looke pretty good... originally he was supposed to be in a volcano climbing out but in the end i went for center of the earth... only problem i had was why would there be a large mass of rock there... that kinda makes it look like the original volcano concept... thanks!
