Description UPDATE: I don't like changing pictures like this, especially if I've already got comments on the picture, but after a few hours (2,5) of sleep I realised I wasn't finished with this picture after all. Now, this is the finished version, a little bit better scanned, even though this time, the colours are a bit off >_O Ah well. You can't always get what you want. Watercolours and colour pencils anyway. /UPDATE

This was not an easy picture to scan, since it looks best from a little distance, as shown in this picture here: verdokai.deviantart.com/art/Un…

Make up your own backstory for this.

EDIT 11/7/2010: drawinks drew THIS !!!

Thanks! I've been considering revisiting this theme someday. Or at least make an updated version of this painting - it's only a year old, but it feels older And that's a bit sad, because I like it quite a lot.

Well it still looks nice, old or not. And if you do decide to paint another I look forward to it.

Up on a marble pedestal
She's beauty in pure form
Contrasted to her humble servants, all of them weary and torn.

Like the whisping silken threads of this lovely seraphim
Everything moves and everything turns, the world dances at her whim.

Like so many others, like so many others, a puppet turns to the sky
With an quickly beating heart. he approaches her with hopes high.

Frozen in that moment, a soft coo escapes her face.
Her laugh is subtle, ripping, killing
putting a puppet in his place

Forever in that moment, unharmed, and yet unsustainable,
He has forgotten all hopes of attaining that which is unattainable.

Forgive me, your artwork drove me to poetry. Thought you might enjoy it.

Well, this was surely surprising, if nothing less - but thank you for sharing It's really very adorable

A strange, if not socially awkward endeavor, but very few pieces of art actually combine true beauty with that sense of foolish hope and futile dreams.

The idea of deceptive, yet radiant beauty isn't touched on far enough at all.

So I should thank you, it really is quite a work.

But thank you, it really means a lot to me.

Perhaps yes, a bit too flattering. I was in a flattering mood.

BUT, it did give me the idea for that poem and I thought you might enjoy seeing it.

Great job!

The contrast between them is really nice and the atmosphere of the picture is very dreamy (lighting and shapes). I like how she looks - her pose, dress, face and ears. Looks somehow carefree to me.
The picture catched my heart because I so like fairytales

Thank you! And I too love fairy tales, which is the main inspiration for this little 'series' of pictures I just wish I was a poet too, so I could write down the proper description of them

Gwenthyr In reply to Verdokai [2009-03-29 15:56:40 +0000 UTC]

You know, poetry is the same as every art - you can learn the form pretty well if you practice it, what you CAN'T learn is the idea, the soul of it. Looking on your pictures and the clues you wrote to the story - You HAVE the essence of it, everything you have to do is write and write and write to bend the words into fine shapes...
Which doesn't mean it's simple. I play with words long enough but am still horrible

Verdokai In reply to Gwenthyr [2009-03-29 15:59:37 +0000 UTC]

I'm not sure our views on art forms are the same (I would have to disagree somewhat with that statement) but thank you for your compliment anyway

Gwenthyr In reply to Verdokai [2009-03-29 16:06:45 +0000 UTC]

Well, the art is the thing with most arguments around it, I think. So I don't really expect everyone to agree with me

Nice use light and dark and a really nice motif as well

I really like her dress... and those soft branches and all, yes.
It looks really nice

Yuppers. The fun horror one

On a completely unrelated note, have you watched The Mist yet? If not do so. Now that's a horror movie with some educated thought and premise behind it (in regards to how people behave when you push them of a precipice)

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Verdokai In reply to skedy [2009-02-21 20:41:17 +0000 UTC]

I haven't, but I might. I think we have it laying around somewhere... and I do want to watch it after I found out that they run away -from rescue- and shoot themselves right before the mist starts to fade and rescue arrives...

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

skedy In reply to Verdokai [2009-02-21 23:23:19 +0000 UTC]

Well that takes about 40% percent of the fun out of the movie. It truly is a WTF? moment when it first happens The critters are still cool though

skedy In reply to Verdokai [2009-02-22 00:11:56 +0000 UTC]

I suppose.....though I never really thought of this one as being funny in that corny horror way....or scary really. Just an interesting exploration of human response. The story, no quite a book in its own right, is really good to. That has no ending though

You know, I really like this one. Poserna är spot on (speciellt robotens, kroppsspråket säger allt helt utan hjälp av ansiktsuttryck <3), there's something really nifty going on with her skirt, and there are sparkels!

I like it that way! -darr-

Det finns inget sätt det kan sluta lyckligt på - for he can never reach the sky, and she must never touch the ground. If nothing else, when she leaves with her lantern, he will be engulfed in darkness once more.

She is his only light - and this is the only moment she will shine for him.

*^_^* AND REJOICE!
