Description
Here is one of my entries for the Lovecraftian Contest in the dA-Morgue group

This is how I imagine the monstrous flutist that is responsible for keeping the omnipotent idiot god Azathoth calm with its lullabies. I imagine that it's a projection of Nyarlathotep (and so a little humanoid, as Nyarlathotep's masks sometimes are), made up of a series of diaphrams, larynxes, syrinxes, bladders, and membranes that produce a cacophony of bird-like pitches, whistles, shrieks, and booms. Our limited human ears can only perceive a fraction of the frequencies emitted, and our fragile minds can only process a minuscule subset of those, and when the cosmic symphony is thus contracted, we hear only the "muffled, maddening beating of vile drums and the thin monotonous whine of accursed flutes" (HPL, The dream-quest of unknown Kadath). When the Nuclear Chaos, the Demon Sultan Azathoth, stirs at the center of Ultimate Chaos, it is only this strange being with its stranger music that stands between the universe and absolute destruction; long live Azathoth's flutist!
