My process! Sorta. A simplified version. xD

1. Basic sketch layer. Super quick, flowy lines and shapes to figure out what goes where.

2. More refined sketch. Put in musculature, refine shapes, etc. Usually there are two refined sketch stages, but this is the fast version LMAO

3. Lines! And then flats.

4. Colorssss

THINGS TO REMEMBER:
- If you're drawing a fully flight-worthy dragon you NEED to have the wings both large enough, and have the wing webbing attach somewhere behind the hips. NOT at the shoulder! Spyro is amazing but not for his wing anatomy, after all.

- I draw my wing arms tying into the chest and shoulder. However! There are lots of configurations that can and will make sense according to the way you draw your dragon anatomy. Just be sure to think about how the bones and muscles of the wings will interact with the dragon and they move; you don't want free-floating wings somewhere on the middle of the back, or weirdly tied into the neck, it won't be able to fly! Positioned wrongly and the bones will not be able to have a full range of movement, the muscles won't be strong enough, etc etc.

- Flow is EVERYTHING. Figure out how your dragon is moving and draw long, sweeping lines to establish the flow of the creature. Unless you're drawing a Monster Hunter avatar, your dragon needs to move freely, not look like a stiff statue!

- DO NOT be afraid to mix and match a whole bunch of reference photos to stare at while you work. For my usual dragons, I often look at horses (their necks and sometimes faces), dogs (greyhounds specifically), cats, big cats, eagles/hawks (for their talons), snakes, and loads of others. No matter how far you progress, never shun reference images. They are your best friend!
