Description
A stage in my design process: a couple of beasts, done days apart, with similar anatomy stylings. They're both passes at the same creature. For my purposes, I prefer the second design, and I'm sure I'll keep iterating on it. Perhaps someday I'll recycle and tweak the first for something else.I had my cursor hovering over the submit button but my cat leapt out of nowhere and informed me he has an important addition. He says, "Brrp-brip, mrrrh."

I've heard every Yoshi sound in existence, even the Fat Yoshi ones.

Personally, I think you should keep both designs, and have them as different... phenotypes?... of the same creature. I love both designs, but have a certain affection for the top one, as it has this tasty bio-horror, Resident Evil-ish feel to it that I just love. And while I know you hate your work compared to other things, I just wanted to give an example of the atmosphere around the top beastie. (I just hope it doesn't come across as the type of comparison thing that a lot if artists hate, understandably so. D: )
The bottom one just seems so quintessentially you, and I love that. This beastie is just so deliciously CREEPY. <3 Definitely has the strong gothic horror element running in its veins.
I could see both variations existing in the same world, but in different habitats or in how they come to exist. The bottom one I imagine as one with folklore-type origins, like your take on the nachzehrer, while the top one I could see as some mad science attempt to create/replicate the creature.
And those are my thoughts run amok on your lovely beasties. I love them!

Thank you so much for the compliments and insightful feedback! You've given me some ideas to consider. I know there was a time years ago that I used to get ruffled about people making comparisons, but since then I've learned that comparisons don't come with accusation and that they can be a meaningful, even fun, means of discussion. :> I'm just fine with it, and yes, as a Resident Evil fan, I see what you mean! Also, let me say it's nice to see you floating about again. I hope you've been well!

Awesome! So glad that helped! And yes, I'm hanging in there as best as I can, and hopefully I'll be on here more often.

I'm really digging these, especially the neck/shoulder area on the top one! But the bottom one has some very nice vispy fur

Both look really good, but the bottom one looks more dynamic somehow. Maybe it's the fur?
In any case, I love these designs. Keep up the good work!

Thank you very much. I think what you may be responding to is the overall silhouette. If I turn these into a flat block, the second one has a stronger silhouette.

Agree, the second one is looking much better. Man, that lineart and the color depiction are amazing, very pro-looking.
The last line of your comment, LOL. Hmmm, wonder if my dog could have any suggestions too.

I just listened her a little bit and I heard: "Sniff-sniff-hmm-GRRR-brrrrrr."
Certainly deep.

The first one is more "reptilian" and zombie looking and the second more canine, they are both pretty cool in their styles, even if I've a preference for the "canine" design. Awesome work :3

Thank you. The things you mention are ultimately why I chose to go with the second design. The role I have in mind for this creature, the zombie appearance is a little too sinister, and the vague canine features make the creature a little more endearing.

oh, I'm glad it helped ^^ And yeah, the second design looks like a kind of over-evolved werewolf, but with some creepy rat traits, it's a really unique monster x)

I find the first one really intresting! I like the insanly long front claws, and the head and horns
All the skeletons is really detailed
that's amazing.
The second one is really good to, but seems less impressive to me

Thank you very much! I'm glad you agree the first one has potential. I really should diverge these two away from each other and use that one for something, too.
