Description
"Sculpt and Design Creatures part 1" is out! gumroad.com/cgzenHey guys, I did few free tutorials a while ago about Zbrush and decided to
release my first paid one on gumroad. This time with English voice over! Although the
theme is overexposed and there are hundreds of creature related tuts out there, I hope
the way I approached mine is a bit different and helpful.
In this tutorial I wanted to show my preferred way of sculpting organic models using
dynamesh as well to share with you some basic design principles that help to add
variety and contrast. The tutorial is done in a similar fashion like my free sci-fi gun
series on youtube - meaning it is packed with info, overlaid examples and
demonstrations.
For full description and what you will get check here: gumroad.com/cgzen
I'll be happy to answer any of your questions and would love to hear your comments!

Hey mate I purchased you're tutorial and learned allot here is a link to this terrible thing im making its the not the best but im learning and hopefully my work will stop looking like shit lol nathan-k-williams.deviantart.c… , I have some questions though, how much do you rely on references?, and what do you do with it?, do you copy aspects of the references onto you're work?, or do you just observe it as a way to make more realistic forms or anything else for that matter?
Another question is what are the main things you want to express through you're designs?.

Hey Nathan!
It is not that bad at all, especially if you are new to sculpting organic stuff, anatomy and so on. With practice you will definitely improve, so just have fun with it and work consistently. Regarding your question on using references - I use reference as much as possible but I avoid direct copying, instead I observe carefully and try to incorporate curtain aspects from the references. Copying stuff like small details is not bad at all if you use references from nature like animals for instance. So my advice is to always have something infront of you. To keep things fresh you can start from imagination and sketch things out of your mind , but always pull out reference images for the later stages in order to bring the design to more polished level.
As for the other question - the things I do are for commercial stuff, so there is no romantic ideas behind them - but if it is character design my goal would be to portray his background and story or his purpose so it is clear at first glance.
Cheers!

How much time during the day should you normally practice? I always get panic attacks when I don't know what I should be doing regarding sculpting during the day.
How much practice is too much practice?
How long should it be?
Am I wasting my time?
Is there the possibility of regression?
Am I regressing?

Updates plan:
#1 PayPal option - already done!
#2 Sample creature bust ztl (upcoming update) - I think of something with only primary and secondary forms no details, so the people learning from this tutorial will have something to test the detailing techniques.
#3 Russian subtitles. (upcoming update)
