The sounds of the woods echoed through the thick fog that had begun to envelope the humid trees, as the night's chill was forgotten as the sun began heating the earth below. The temperature grew as the snow leopard’s paws padded along the leaf ladened ground, his fur feeling heavy against his sides. He was attempting to find his way back to Shadow Empire, back to Kamaria, the young cheetah he’d found himself entranced with. He knew that even though they’d gotten separated during their journey, that that’d be the first place he would find her, as it was familiar ground between them. He’d hoped to find her, his heart heavy about her getting separated from the small group of he, his aunt, and his aunt’s partner, Jay.
With the hopes of finding her as he drew closer to his old home, a noise began distracting him, a sort of rustling in the woods, like the sound of footsteps, the same kind he had previously been making. Knowing the danger of these lands like no other, he prepared himself into a fighting stance, his front lowered, and his back hind raised, ready to pounce at a moment's notice. His piercing blue eyes stare intently at the sounds, before a familiar gray striped pelt entered his field of vision. It was a cougar and clouded leopard hybrid with the name Liana. She’d been his younger sister’s childhood best friend since birth, and a familiar face around his own family.
Raising from his defensive position, his fur mangled head became more visible to the approaching hybrid female. Her own pale blue eyes lighting up with familiarity. “Sebring?!” She called, an ecstatic tone washing over her momentarily confused voice. It had been a year since he’d reconnected with her, a year since he and his aunt had decided to leave the empire. “Liana,” He said with a welcoming voice to the younger female, a smile spreading across his face as he approached, closing the gap between the two.
“Gosh! It feels like it’s been ages! It’s so good to see your friendly face,” Liana chuckled, a sense of nervous unease washing away from her as she continued speaking, “It’s been hard since a lot of you left…”
Sebring raised an eyebrow, curious to know what all had happened in his time away, hoping nothing bad had befallen his family or his empire. “Tell me all about it,” He said firmly.
“Well, shortly after, your sister and I had gotten captured while we were out training, and we’d been captured for a majority of this past year. We’d gotten shipped out to another city, because apparently other cities needed cats more, since Massilia was basically a breeding factory and they had all the cats they could ever need, and my gods, I'm thankful I wasn’t a part of that… But anyway, we were glued together for the most part. We came back here together, but Val wasn’t quite ready to see her parents, and I don’t think she’d really want to, not right now…” The cougar-hybrid continued, a downtrodden look taking over her expression, the once happy smile fading as she remembered something.
“Why wouldn’t she want to see our family?” He asked with a furrowed brow. Nothing ever seemed to phase his little baby sister, and he feared the worst happened to her while in captivity, knowing he himself had a tough time after coming home, but even then he didn’t turn down his parents.
Liana’s soft blue eyes looked up to Sebring’s for a moment, before going back to her paws, “Well… It seems they made no efforts in trying to find Valmue or her sisters, as it seemed the entire litter went missing, and decided to have a new litter as a replacement. I’m not sure what all happened, but that’s what it seems on the surface.”
“Hmm… that doesn’t sound like my parents… Souci went to find me, and so did my aunt, why didn’t they try with my baby sisters…?” He asked himself for the most part, but before he continued the line of thought, he decided to ask about his own person he was looking for, Kamaria. “Kamaria, is she in Shadow? We got separated, and I came back to look for her. Is she okay?”
“Oh, you had feelings for her right?” Liana asked, a more weary look on her face.
“Uhm… yes,” He said with a boyish flush, never really admittingly saying it out loud before.
“Well… It seems she did not wait for you. She’s pregnant with another man’s children,” She said softly, not wanting to break his heart, but she was never one to beat around the bush. “I only went to camp briefly, more to catch up with family, but I saw she was in the nursery with a familiar tiger,” Liana continued.
Sebring stood shocked, baffled by the news given by the younger hybrid. This didn’t sound like any of the people he knew. Did they no longer care about their family and loved ones? It was like they hadn’t existed at all in their lives, like they’d been erased, at least by the sounds of his sister’s friend who’d actually returned there. He didn’t quite know how to handle the news of Kamaria and his family moving on, leading to the snow leopard just standing there in a daze.
“Are… you absolutely sure about this information…?” He finally asked, breaking the silence that had befell them.
“It’s hard to take in, I know… I returned home to hear of my father’s death, and believe me. It’s tough news to hear. If you need to see it for yourself, you can. The camp isn’t too far from here,” She said in a soft tone, her pale blue eyes looking like they were lost in an old memory. “Once you’re done, you can come back with me to see your sister if you’d like. I’m going to share with her the same news I’ve discovered,” Liana offered with a somber smile.
He stared at her for a moment, trying to process, before saying, “I think I might skip the in person heartbreak, and just go see the little sunlight herself.” He always loved his little sister, seeing her smile always made him happy, and he could honestly use a bit of smiling right now.
Liana smiled at the nickname for Valmue, knowing that without her, she’d probably not even have made her way home. As she was the one drive that had kept her alive through their trafficking for an entire year.
NOTE: Names of other's characters in this spin off story is not meant to be offensive, but meant to be as a continuation of my own character's story and an explanation as to why another's character is no longer involved in their lives.
I'm doing a little spin off story between Sebring, Liana, and Valmue!
Look forward to seeing more >: )c
