While trying to explain how I draw to a friend I did a sketch of AJ and it looked cute so I decided to paint it. Since I've been starting acrylic class this quarter I decided to spend a bit more time on the background this time (usually it's dreadfully boring). Tried out some real world painting techniques (getting inspired by Bob Ross paint videos of happiness) and focused on utilizing more color in my shadows and trying to have better contrast.I kind of like the idea of making a nice character portrait series out of this. It was a lot of fun and I learned alot.
The initial sketch looked very White Diamondy so I was going to paint it like she would but I decided to hold back on a few of her more stylistic choices and just do what felt right. Still looks like a crappy ripoff of her anyway but whatever I hope you enjoy it anyway ^^

This is seriously the best thing ever. The colors you put into the shadows really makes the whole thing pop. So much more saturated looking than your older work. Super cute expression. Maximum solid background. Really an immense step forward from how lazy and quick the background on your other stuff was.
Though, the bright area maybe needs a little darkening. I can see you put a lot of nice detail there, but it seems washed out by the brightness. Although, it just might be the gamma setting on my monitor.
I can see that those acrylic classes are really pushing you into exciting new areas!

Actually, I think I just didn't have optimal viewing angle for my monitor. I pushed the screen back a little and suddenly the washed out look in the center disappeared.
