Description
Names.
Titles we address each other by,
whether it is formal like a rank,
or playful like a nickname,
we use names almost unconsciously,
hundreds, maybe thousands, of times each day.

Yet, like all things,
there are good & bad things about names.
While perhaps unintentionally,
they can be quite harmful.
We're not talking about your average, everyday joking-around name calling.
We're talking about names being used as weapons.

I'm sure many of you out there have heard them all.
Fat, stupid, ugly, lazy worthless.
Dweeb, spazzoid, nerd, wierdo, fag.
While these words may just seem like words on the surface,
if you tell a person something enough times,
they'll believe it.
Even bad things,
about themselves or anyone else.

How many deaths have been caused by this everyday meet-and-greet?
How many girls, convinced they were fat, worthless, ugly or not good enough?
How many boys, told they were nerds, that they weren't cool enough?
How many more will it take
for the world to wake up & see the truth?

A part of basic human speech & behavior
transformed into a deadly weapon
by arrogant individuals who need to feel superior.
If the spirits of those lost could speak, they would say,
"Those who ignore the past are doomed to repeat it."

So the next time you see name-calling happening, well, anywhere,
will you be the one to prevent more wasteful death?
Or will you allow history to repeat itself once again?
That's a question only you can answer.
