I have seen MANY fanarts depicting Dipper as a ghost, and it really inspired me. (Also have seen plenty of fanart depicting Dipper being possessed by Bill Cipher, and I have now combined those two concepts in my head. Dare I write fics?)

AMG thanks!! I can't get myself to write fanfics too easily. The stigma and reputation with fics scares me away, to be honest. Which is why I focus my literary side on original stories.

Hoh crap. Um ok here goes.
It starts in episode 4, "The Hand That Rocks The Mabel", the introduction of Gideon. (VERY early on in the series for tragedy to befall. I'm so terrible.) During the climax of the episode in which Gideon and Dipper are fighting over his magic pendant, Dipper falls out the window solo, and there's no one who saves him this time.
Dipper of course does not survive the landing. Gideon himself is also indeed in shock, and at first, regrets it. Mabel is distraught and very specifically goes through the five stages of grief. (The whole thing takes place from episode 4 onto the end of season 1, events happening in the background the same way, just with one less character, now altering the behavior of the main cast.)
The main characters all fall under a depression from the news. Grunkle Stan is more upset about Mabel's loss over Dipper's suffering. And he cannot get himself to call the Pines parents and admit the tragedy.
They have a funeral for Dipper while Mabel is still in the denial stage. Her only source of comfort is... Gideon. He's there with her as a shoulder to cry on. Gideon, throughout this whole thing, gets exactly what he wants. He gets power, he gets the Mystery Shack out of business, and he gets Mabel.
Mabel doesn't hate Gideon for what happened because she's a naive kid and doesn't think it was his fault. In fact, (stage 2, anger) Mabel blames Dipper for dying. (stage 3, bargaining.) It is during this time that Mabel seeks answers and revisits the site where it all went down. And it is here where she is visited by a mysterious apparition. Dipper has returned as a ghost, and Mabel is the only one who can see him. His presence messes with her natural grieving process and she grows moody and unstable. She is of course happy to see her dear brother again, but reverts back to anger and again, blames him for dying. Dipper tries to explain to her that Gideon is the bad guy here and that he is after the journal.
Mabel dramatically displays more elated behavior around her family, making them wonder more if she is okay. Mabel becomes a sort of double-agent between Gideon and Dipper, and grows unsure of who to trust.
Towards the ending of the season, Dipper and Mabel go off to eaves drop on whatever Gideon is up to, where they discover him in a forest clearing summoning a demon. The entity deems Gideon's request to be petty and is about to leave when Mabel pushes Gideon out of the way and offers a new proposal. She begs the demon to bring her brother back from the grave by any means necessary, (to which Dipper of course begs her not to be so stupid to ask favors of a demon.) The triangle-like entity gladly accepts the deal and shakes hands. With a burst of blue flames, the flesh and blood of Dipper Pines emerges from the ground, but with an unfamiliar grimace across his face.

As you point that out, it is interesting that every one I've seen represents Dipper being the victim of circumstance. Maybe seeing a dead girl would be sadder. o_o

Dipper has the book, seeing he's sister die with him not being able to do anything WOULD make this sadder, but. Mabel would've tried to help him as much as he would've done for her, then again, if Mabel was to say, 'distracted' so much that she didn't see the signa to help him before it was too late would make the story sad as Dipper trying to help his sister. With Mabel having the burden to complete her brother's quest to find the author would be too much without the help of her brother and their understanding of each other.
So either way, both are the sad view. Or I'm going into my fanboy mood again. ^^'

Thanks! I've spent months getting critiques from friends about it and showing different levels of transparency and shading. One of my concerns being that Dipper's face is harder to see with the added shading. :/
