Description My lovely griffin Gyosei is back, and now I'm trying to figure out feathers... What do you think of the ones I have thus far? Are they decent? Should I improve them in some way? Please leave a comment, I would love a bit of extra help on this one...

A quick note to all: the neck, head and chest is all fur, the mostly unshaded wing is the only feathery part. If you can't tell what's fur and what's not, please tell me. I'll see what I can do to fix it, though I'm a bit far along to change a huge amount...

You're gonna laugh, but my mom loves this picture and is "very impressed with your talent"

That's looking great already! I like that the fur looks a bit like feathers too about feedback... I don't think I've much to add. The coverts on wings tend to be larger if these wings scale with those of a normal bird, and their edgesΒ tend to be less visible but that's going to depend on the colour of the wing. If the feathers all have the same colour, they hardly stand out (meaning you don't have to draw them all). Other than that, I think you are doing great!

those are the small feathers covering the 'bone and muscle' part of the wing. and sorry for the late reply, I wasn't paying attention to DA much during and around the holidays

Ah gotcha
No worries. I'm less likely to pay as much attention to it now with school starting back up. Being at an engineering university, they'll keep me busy, I'm sure. ^.^

hello!! VERY well done and crisp looking. I really love how you did those eyes and the very well done shading. I don't really see much that could be done better for this since its already very nice, but I'd say that those larger feathers on the wings are a little wonky looking to me (not sure if its a style choice, or just something to be improved on) I think its just the overall shape and direction of those long feathers. feathers are mostly very stiff (especially with the thick feathers like those on a hawk or most big birds) and some of them slightly looked curved or weirdly shaped, what you could do is let some of those thicker feathers overlap or poke out slightly (for any kind of outward curve with thicker fewer feathers, letting them stick out alot would be good to do) to make it look more realistic and appealing, (especially if you're aiming for a rugged and messy look, the more noticeable the better!) I dunno thats just what i see! overall this piece is beautiful!!
(hope this might have helped you with anything! I'm happy to give an input c: )

I greatly appreciate it! This is my first ever attempt at feathers and I'm rather nervous because I really don't want to mess this piece up, it's one of my favorites if you can't tell from my profile pic. Lol.

Thanks! Yeah, feathers are new, Gyosei is only the second griffin I've ever done, first one with a short beak, only my 5th drawing with shading, I believe... So, lots of "firsts" or at least "semi-new"s with this one.

hmm, iam not the right person to help u but maybe you could draw a few irregularities in the feathers, for me it looks kind of "too flat and evenly" with some "chaos" in the feathers = more realistic touch, sry my english isnt the best one around but i hope it helps u a little bit y
btw great work

have a nice day and cya
