As the time came to inflate the ‘ball’ I held my breath in the wings. It would be a bad omen if the fish balloon exploded (as they were prone to do) on opening night. But it didn’t. Carrie puffed her fish up without incident and the game commenced, proceeded and finished without a hitch. Eventually Jo pulled the stopper out and sent the critter whizzing out into the audience.
