Description 12/15/18 Update: This guide has been revamped! I made this one a basic species introduction, so the trait/rarity guide is still in the works. The old one is incredibly outdated, but it can be found here:

Some of this written content is outdated as well. I'll edit it another time - for now, it's bed time! :')

Examples of Trinkin designs:

Hello everyone! Here is some information on my closed species, Trinkins. Trinkins are the reason all of your little items around the house keep disappearing - they take them and bring them back to their collections. Every Trinkin has one special item that is their favorite of their collection, and they are never seen without it.

Species Background Information
Appearance:
Trinkins appear similar in build to rodents, rabbits, otters, and squirrels. They have long torsos and short legs, very large ears and fluffy tails. They are about the size of a rabbit, and are able to stand on their hind legs, though they walk on all fours. Every Trinkin has a set of twisted horns, though the horns vary in size and shape. All Trinkins have "eyeliner" around their eyes. They come in many different colors including earth tones, gray tones, and pastels (vivid and dark colors are not often seen, and often only as accent colors.) Every Trinkin has a set of twisting horns, which glow and sparkle because of the magic stored within them. If a Trinkin's horns are not sparkling, it has lost it's magic entirely.

Magical Abilities:
All Trinkins are highly intelligent and capable of understanding human speech. They also have limited telepathy and telekinesis, able to communicate across very short distances with each other and able to move objects they would normally be unable to due to size/weight/bulk. They do not communicate with humans due to the justified fear that they will be captured and humans will gain the knowledge of their magic and try to use it for themselves. All Trinkins also have the ability to create illusions for very, very short periods of time, which helps to disguise them from the human eye. They sometimes disguise themselves as mice or even other humans to throw off any suspicion. This is why many of them are bright colors, as they are able to camouflage themselves at will. Their magic is stored up in their horns, which glow and sparkle from it. The duller the glow, the more desperate they are in need of replenishing their magic.

Inanimate objects are capable of storing magical energy within them, and so several times a year, they go through their hoards and select items to give in offering to their ruler/god. Their ruler/god takes these offered items and absorbs the magic from them, distributing it amongst his/her followers in order to replenish the magic they use to open their pocket dimensions. The more magic the Trinkin uses, the more often they have to give offerings.

Habitat & Diet:
Trinkins are a very versatile species, and can exist anywhere there is food and water. Trinkins are capable of opening up portals to their own pocket dimensions, where they keep their hoarded items. These pocket dimensions are their homes, and exist somewhere between the human realm and the spirit realm. They are foragers, and will exit their homes in the day to gather these foodstuffs and potential new treasures outside. They are not scavengers - they will eat fresher foods rather than garbage. They are not usually active at night, though it sometimes depends on the individual.

Personality & Socialization:
They are very social, with other animals, with humans, and amongst themselves. Some humans view them as pests, as they often disguise themselves as such, and others (mostly children and the elderly) delight in having them in their homes, leaving them gifts. A human that truly believes in magic can see through their illusions and see them for what they are. For those humans who do and have good intentions, Trinkins are very affectionate with them, often nuzzling them similar to the way a cat would, with their cheeks. They are highly intelligent, and can easily be trained by their pet humans.

They are friendly amongst each other as well. The only time they have conflict is when they fight amongst each other over new trinkets or a household pet or potential predator is trying to catch them. When fighting over a claim, they use their horns. These fights are usually more bravado than anything and injuries are rare. However, sometimes a combatant will rip an ear or break a horn. Once an item has been claimed by a Trinkin, another Trinkin will never touch it again. Each Trinkin has a specific pocket dimension for their hoards, and they are strictly respectful of another's territory and never enter unless invited.

Trinkins don't mate for life, though they are monogamous until the other passes away. Once mated, they will combine their hoards into one pocket dimension, though they do still keep each collection separated. They usually have around 1-3 pups per litter, and the pups are rarely ever seen. They spend their adolescence in the safety of their parents' hoard, spending all day playing with the treasures while their parents are out foraging. Pups are themselves treated as treasures, and the parents will do anything to keep them safe. Orphaned pups will be taken in by other Trinkins, even if the adult Trinkin does not have a mate to help care for it. Once the pup is old enough, it will venture out to find it's own treasure. When it finds it's first treasure, which usually ends up being it's favorite, then it is usually ready to create it's own pocket dimension.

Those Trinkins who have lost their magic due to offending their god or simply not replenishing it are more feral than those still with magic. They are often in darker or muted colors, as their naturally bright coats have lost their luster due to the lack of magic within them. They aren't as trusting, and will hide unless they feel safe. They tend to collect pretty things they find while foraging - seashells, feathers, discarded bottle caps, lost change, etc. even though they are no longer able to open a pocket dimension and offer to their god.

Society:
In ancient societies, Trinkins were viewed as sort of delivery men to the gods. It was believed that they would take your most precious treasures and deliver them in offering to the gods. People would leave items in hopes that the gods would enjoy the treasures and grant them luck or peace. Trinkins were highly treasured and given the utmost care and respect.

A Trinkin is a versatile creature that can exist in any location, in any time period, in any world. For example, my Luca collects skeleton keys in a steampunk-esque Victorian England. If you want your Trinkin to exist in modern times, living in the attic and is best friends with a twelve-year-old expert finger painter, do it! If you want your Trinkin to live in ancient Mayan societies, revered and spoiled like a baby with offerings, go ahead! If you want your Trinkin to exist in a fictional world where the people have three heads, that's great! If you want your Trinkin to be a humanoid character with ears and horns and a tail, feel free! I don't want to hinder your imagination when it comes to this species.

Trinkins are a CLOSED SPECIES* - which means that the only way you can get one is if you purchase one from me or trade with/buy from someone else who already owns one.
Trinkin designs will be auctioned/sold by myself regularly, so if you really want one, watch me to be notified when they are up for grabs!

*Just because this is a closed species, it does not mean you can't create your own collector character. You just can't create one with all of the exact distinct Trinkin features - eye-liner eyes, twisted horns, etc. It also means you can't create something similar and call it a Trinkin.

Any tips and suggestions or ideas regarding this species will be gladly welcomed in the comments below!

Since this was updated, does it mean that there will be more trinkin adopts soon?

Yes! I've taken some time to figure out where I want this species to go, and I have a few things I still would like to do before I work on releasing more, but I definitely will have some available soon. I'm happy that you're interested! :'3

So what you're basically saying is I could make my own "Trinkin" so long as it isnt an ACTUAL Trinkin and has some different features or missing some features? I just want some clarification.

I'm not saying that you can take the Trinkin concept and leave off a few things/add a few things and make a "knock-off" for free. What I am saying that I don't own the concept of a critter that collects items. So if someone else has some type of creature that collects things, I'm not going to get mad at them and lash out at them for "stealing" my idea. But Trinkins specifically - the combination of their anatomy, sparkly magic-storing horns, background story and lore, etc - are owned by me. You can't create something exactly/almost exactly like a Trinkin and say it is original, and you can't create your own Trinkin and call it one, since official Trinkins must be obtained through me. Does that make sense? :'x

I try to be very careful with how I word things, so if this sounds rude/offensive in any way, it is not intended to and I apologize. I'm just trying to be clear and concise. Thank you.

Awww, thank you!

I know, right? I'm pretty sure they actually do exist. I mean, where else could every single one of my house keys have gone? xD
