Who said Sylvari were peaceful? I think people tend to think of them too much along the lines of "Oh look, plant elves". Which they're definitely not.

While this is certainly late... They are indeed peaceful-- or try to be. Following Ventari's teachings means not engaging in violence where diplomacy works just as well. They aren't elves, but they aren't dwarves either. They are content with exploring and learning, as well as upholding justice (in which case, yes, they will fight if they need to protect others).

That doesn't mean that all sylvari are exactly matching that one stereotype. There will be deviations without them necessarily being nightmare court.
Saying that all sylvari are necessarily peaceful is like saying that all norn are stupid, notoriously drunk brutes.

LORE says that Sylvari tend to have a peaceful temperament. They prefer politeness as well, it seems. However, there is nothing in lore that says Norn are stupid or drunk. However, they ARE said to have an outgoing temperament and in lore they pursue their legend. Of course not ALL sylvari will be cheerful and happy, but they will typically be peaceful. Ventari's Tablet says for them to.

Didn't say that the lore stated norn were drunks, it's a stereotype. Just like Sylvari peacefulness is a stereotype, however well founded it may be. There will probably be (relatively) menacing, aggressive sylvari as well as timid norn or stupid asura. Or atheist humans. Easily-scared charr. you name it. The point is, especially in roleplaying groups, there will be characters deviating from the norm of a race, and that's completely normal.
