Description
As we dive deep into the unconscious, sometimes there are creatures lurking that want to drag us down deeperβ¦Although I really did create this from both a dream and from irrational fear. I was having problems breathing at night gasping for air and was dreaming that I was sinking down further or being pulled by something. I also think we deal with a lot things that are deep within us and only surface in times of stress this represents that.
Interestingly a month before I did this piece we also had visited the Monterey Bay Aquarium. And the octopus that was there was attracted to me or my shirt I was not sure if it wanted to eat me or be my friend. But every time I walked up to the tank it followed me and only me. People all around the area were like, look at that octopus follow that guy! I put my hand up to the glass and it put it's tentacle up to meet it. It was very surreal but I felt no danger... When I left for the day I was sort of sad, it seemed as friendly as a cat or a puppy!

Marvellous of colors and shading. The effect of the image is increased by not showing the view what thetentacles are coming from. (It could be a kraken but its might be something else)

i commented already but i feel i should comment again. i love the sea and ocean i have had many a dream where i was sinking beneath the waves and all i could see above me was the passing of dolphins and fish and divers that could not see me. but i felt at peace in this water sinking deeper into the abyss of water. i fell slowly and i relaxed and let the currents carry me away to another place and another time.
although this drawing is off of a more sinister dream of being dragged to the depths. i find it a most intriguing piece of art. i love it. it reminds me of my dream and i sympathize with the artist of having that fear of the abyss. my friend has a similar fear and she is almost phobic of dark water. i respect the water's power to nurture us and to frighten us. it would be like swimming in loch ness at night. the feeling of helplessness. i love this piece. i think you did a marvelous job and i think it is one of the best pictures i have ever seen. it explores a fear we all have and you did that wonderfully.
by the way love the story on the octopus following you. that would be so cool. i think it was trying to commune with you. which is totally awesome. keep up the good work.

Have you taken pictures of that event?
I really like the depth you have created, the wonderful looking up point of view almost asif you allow the watcher to crawl in the octopus skin and pull the diver down, and he too seems not that frightened, it must be the story you told worth it, for the first time I seen this it was intense and darker. Like evil lurking beneath, now, after reading your artist comment, it more comes across as curious and maybe playful.
Yeah, the mind is a weird thing!
