Description
Feb9th sparkyyy background challenge [link]About 1 hour and ten, painted in Sai with new brush settings. Pretty pleased with it overall. I thought this was going to be impossible with all that foliage but I think I did a decent job of it, at least giving the impression of foliage anyway.

You did great work rendering this one. The lighting came out quite well, which was what I considered the most difficult with this challenge. I think its pretty amazing that you were able to pull this off in just an hour and ten minutes! I struggle so much with not go over the two hours.

Thanks! Yeah I'm also surprised I manage them under the time limit, I thought I took ages to paint stuff but its actually more that it feels like ages lol.

I think it's a wonderful feeling, as I recall, you weren't really too pleased with your first entries for the challenge, and now you are! That's great.
As for this painting, it's a success! The tree is thick with foliage, and how the light passes "through" the base and the trunk is ace. Well done.
Sai looks interesting to use! I'm a go try it.

Yeah I'm certainly getting more used to the landscapes now and how to approach them. Cheers for the comments too, I'm glad you liked how the light passes through as I tried to pay extra attention to that detail.
Yeah Sai is very good but you have to play a lot with the brush settings to get something that's not super soft, unless you like really soft brushes. This landscape painted with the pen tool with a changed brush type which allowed me to use it like a hard opacity brush.

Soft as in a low opacity GIMP brush?
Anyway, cheers!

soft as in; the brushes in sai feel like a real brush that's been soaked in a lot of water. Unless you tweak them about that is.

Just tried it, and I'm personally loving it. Hadn't heard of the tool before, so thanks for that!
Keep up the good work.

Ohh thanks, I'm enjoying the challenge and starting to get a bit more used to it now, look forward to the rest of them. Also painting to a 2 hour time limit is actually really good I think I'm going to carry on doing it with figures as well, because normally I get put off doing paintings because they take so long; like 6 hours normally, but sticking to a time limit I know just to try my best to get it done in that time and not go over it.
