Drunkenness is when alcohol builds up in a digestive system. And since Gems can eat, they need a system to process food stuffs. So yes, theoretically Gems can get drunk.

I don't collect gems...
but but I have made a SUOC (Steven Universe Original Character) named Emerald. I haven't created a bio but he is about the size of peridot without the lemonhansers. Emerald and Peridot fuse to form viridian. I created a small story about their first fusion. I can't link it but it is on my profile page. Its funny trust me.

And on the story of the first fusion the idea of having to do it to escape is kind of overused no offense. I believe that the unintended fusion is better for the comical affect.

oh? to tell the truth, i've never actually seen any other examples of 'first fusion being used to escape' before. that's why i set it like that (Oh and no offense taken 
I've only ever seen the accidental/unintentional themes used for first fusions.

I just think that when they need to fuse to escape it is kind of set up and obvious when if it is unintended it adds a sense of humor. I've seen a few. I have read countless stories about first fusion and The two themes that I saw the most was fuse to get past an obstacle and unintended fusion.

for me, when i wrote this, it was more to show the relationship between aragonite and calcite. the fusion circumstances (being trapped) were more secondary to the plot. For this story, i don't think the humour aspect would have worked. it needed the more 'subtle'/emotional (For want of a better word) themes. But i stress, that is only for this story

Ok. If it was because the plot demanded it. But if you did another one where the gems are not is some kind of mission maybe two new crystal gems would you use that idea of it being unintended?
for example when Peridot and Emerald first fused Peridor was teaching Emerald how to dance and she tripped and Emerald caught her and boom! viridian was formed

i guess it would be possible, yeah.
a fall or trip where one catches the other resulting in their ' dance'. or where they may be running in opposite directions and collide by accident.
The trick would be to have the catch/collision/etc result in enough of their fusion dance to make them fuse.
for instance (if you look at official fusions) ruby and sapphire can (and did) fuse by accident because their dance is a simple spin, meaning any form of collision that allows them to hold each other and spin can result in them forming garnet.
amethyst and pearl however use a more complex dance, so an accidental fusion there would be harder/rarer to occur. it could be possible, but you would need the right circumstances for it to happen

My theory is the more friendly a gem is to another gem the less effort it takes to fuse. Peridot and Emerald are best friends so it would make sense. But then there is malachite. I don't even know how that was even possible. Lapis HATES Jasper.

that is true. a closer/friendlier connection between the gems allows for easier fusion.
as for malachite, i think that happened because lapis wanted it to. she may have hated jasper, but it was her way of trapping jasper. she allowed the fusion to happen otherwise it wouldn't have

I forgot about that. And Emerald and Peridot are so close that they can fuse about as fast as Ruby and Sapphire. And they are the size of garnet to making them the smallest fusion. I thought of a small story about fusion what to hear it?

Ok here it goes
"ok," said Pearl, "it's another communications hub. We will need a well thought out plan to take this down."
"we don't need a plan," said Amethyst, "we just need to be huge!"
"no," said Emerald fusing with Peridot.
"what we need is accuracy." Said viridian.
"ok." Said Amethyst, "I guess it is your turn."
"leave it to us." Said viridian summoning there gunblade, "this tower is going offline."
in a flash viridian was slicing the pillars until there was only one left that was needed to be destroyed and viridian blasted it into a shower of dust.
Peridot unfused with Emerald and Emerald said, "I told you we needed accuracy."

Thx. Note viridian is the size of garnet so based on the proportion of size to power viridian is the strongest fusion of the crystal gems.

They are very powerful and with a weapon like a gunblade they combine the power sugalet ( I think i spelled that wrong) and the accuracy of sardonyx

So, I imagine this when I look at this picture: Peridot walks into a club called the "Jack Pit" in New York City. The whole club smells like fast food and booze, and '90s house music has filled the room. She finds the Gems within a crowd of many, but she becomes tempted to drink and dance by the environment of the club. Eventually, she became drunk around 3:15am, and she has been absorbed into the house vibe; She passes out after having 27 beers at 4:22am, and wakes up at 7:02am.
