Description
" Then suddenly I saw it. With only a slight churning to mark its rise to the surface, the thing slid into view above the dark waters. Vast, Polyphemus-like, and loathsome, it darted like a stupendous monster of nightmares to the monolith, about which it flung its gigantic scaly arms, the while it bowed its hideous head and gave vent to certain measured sounds. I think I went mad then.""Dagon" by H.P.Lovecraft.

In Biblical context, Dagon is the Semitic Fish God, God of Philistines. It was represented in the combination of both man and fish. The name "Dagon" is derived from "dag" which means "fish."

Oh nice!
Found this a few days ago on pinterest and used it as desktop wallpaper, pretty glad I found your original source!
This is by far the most awesome dagon-depiction I've ever seen.
I absolutely love the incredibly exaggerated size, the mutation-like bulbs and bubbles on his skin, his posture, the general creature design with the gaping maw and the lack of eyes...Β
Damn, I just love it, it's so intimidating and terrifying!

"Dagon" was one of the first Lovecraft stories I ever read, and this is a wonderfully unique representation of the work! The cold, wet, creepy look of the creature is perfect for what the story's narrator discovered near the monolith.

Wow this is my favourite rendition of Dagon so far! I drew it recently so I thought I'd look at what other DA artists did. I think Dagon was supposed to be human-like but who cares when the art is so compelling!

hey thanks! and yeah you're right, it should be more human - like. When I was thinking how to paint Dagon, the only image I could visualize was a monster with no human aspects. So I just stayed with that idea, especially after seeing many various interpretations of Dagon
And I love your work! Very comic style, awesome

Vast, hideous, revolting as Dagon should be, and many Dagon's are - but the great touch in this is the suggestion that Dagon is not a malignant thing as he is often depicted, but getting Lovecraft's concept of beings 'detached' (A particularly good touch is im the eyes) HPL would, I think, be proud. First-rate stuff.
