these are such gorgous birds! The resident acorn woodpeckers tend to harass them away from our home, so I've seen a few similar flashing off through the trees, but they've not been close enough to photograph

thank you - this is my first time to spot one. I will watch for them, they love hanging out at the top of trees and now with no leafs it will be easier.

thanks Patrick, don't know for sure if it is a male or female. Now that there are only few leafs left on trees it is easier to take shot of birds.

You know, I was thinking the exact same thing just the other day. Birds are something I don't have much experience photographing, but it's something I'd be interested in doing. From what I've read, it's a more difficult subject to capture, so the results should end up being more rewarding. I feel up to the challenge!

I use a telephoto lens (F8/500mm). Yes, birds are very quick and sometimes it is difficult to capture them but sure worth the trouble
