Background/History – Gauntlet got the name “Gauntlet” when he became part of an organization of Digimon known only as “Project U.”

It is known to few and far between exactly how large this organization is, or even who is in charge of it or why, but the way it works seems to be relatively elaborate money-making scam. Project U hosts fighting tournaments across a wide expanse of the Digital World, with promises of luxurious prizes for the winners, and extensive data repair by experts for the losers, to prevent death. Anyone can to enter for a relatively small fee, after signing a seemingly harmless contract.

It is well-known that most, if not all, Digimon seek power and digivolution, and many weaker ones will go to great lengths to get it, usually by means of loading the data of their defeated combat opponents. They see these tournaments as a way to gain that easily, and without running into anyone too far out of their league, since the tournaments advertise their unique way of pitting Digimon together based on both power and skill level.

However, many entrants will find that before long, they face opponents they have little to no chance against in a fight—the very powerful members of Project U. After they lose the fights, and their data has been repaired, they learn that they owe a large sum of money for their lives being saved, whether they wanted it to be or not.

This is where members of Project U such as Gauntlet come in. If the losing tournament entrants are unable to pay for their data repair within a predetermined time frame based on how difficult and/or costly the data repair supposedly was, bounty hunters belonging to Project U will be dispatched to either seize the money from them, force them to work off their debt through service to Project U (if they qualify), or kill them off, taking their data to be stored and modified for one of three purposes: To make the members of Project U stronger through upgrades and such, to be made into spare upgrades and sold to the public for a high price by other members of Project U, or to be stored away and used to repair unfortunate tournament participants of the same specie or digivolutionary line. The darker aspects of Project U are kept secret from the unsuspecting public mainly through the killing of anyone with the intention of squealing, making sure the organization stays in business.

Gauntlet was a victim of this scam who entered a tournament and was defeated by Round 4. Like many others, he was unable to pay for his life being spared, but when he was brought in to the local Project U HQ (blindfolded by his own neckerchief), the head of the division, Torrid, a female Flamedramon, took a liking to him and allowed him to live. He was promised a rewarding membership of Project U, and an sizable upgrade to increase his power (the leftover data of a deceased Beelzemon).

He accepted, and was given the upgrade, which changed his appearance and accessories to match that of Project U members. The upgrade he received also gave him a scale-size set of Beelzemon wings, and made it easier for him to digivolve, though his power in the rookie stage stayed mostly the same. He is still currently working for Project U as a bounty hunter, and he likes his job. He is close friends with Velvet, a Gatomon merchant of the upgrades offered to the public by Project U. Initially, Gauntlet has more interest in Torrid, though.

Personality – Very short-tempered and eager to fight, especially if it means gaining more power. Probably his favorite part of the job is hunting down victims and cornering them. Though he is very fun-loving (in a somewhat sadistic way,) he is not very energetic otherwise, and can be easily annoyed. His sense of humor is rather morbid compared to most.

Habits – Though digivolution is made somewhat easier for him after being upgraded, he still prefers to stay in his rookie form, as his small body size compared to his rather large wingspan makes for better flying ability.

Body – Markings and gloves are slightly modified due to his upgrade. Has a set of scaled-down Beelzemon wings, allowing him to fly. His tail is a little long and thinner than the average Impmon, possibly a side-effect of the upgrade.
