Sooo I did a "sketch" giveaway that HabbyRabbit won and because I've been taking FOREVER to do her other prize that she won from a contest, I decided to up the "sketch" to a super quick digital pic XDΒI think this took maybe 1 hour max haha. and my grandmother is too old to exist
jk but today grandma thinks that my dad wouldn't let her come downstairs and threw a giant fit and started crying and yelling at my dad for no reason and like last night, she did the same thing and i think something is up with her medication or something or maybe she has some sort of personality disorder because i have never seen her this bad even with alzheimer's. she's being incredibly aggressive and i know she has a disease but we think maybe increasing her dosage had side effects of aggression since we checked her meds and confirmed that as a side effect. hoping she calms down :/Β
i think my grandmother is the reason why my family wishes that we'll die before becoming a burden on others. i don't wanna trouble my kids in the same way that my grandmother troubles my father, even if it's her mental state that's making the difference. [but actually, even without alzheimer's she was always causing fights between my parents so im not sure whether the situation is better now or before. i personally think it's better now. bittersweet but truth cuz that was my childhood and it was always more troublesome to see my parents fight with each other than just my grandmother yelling for no reason cuz i know my dad doesn't and won't try to reason with someone who has alzheimer's. u can't win. oh and she also doesn't want us in "her" house cuz she thinks her grandfather built our house. this house is 10 years old lol.]

Well, the thing with senile dementia is that it's progressive, no? So even if your grandma wasn't like this before, it's kinda bound to get worse and worse, right?
It makes me sad whenever people think of other people as a "burden". I know you don't think of your grandma as a burden, but please don't ever think of yourself as a burden or a burden-to-be.
There was this German philosopher Immanuel Kant. He had a brilliant mind and contributed greatly to the theory of science and knowledge. He had a dream to find one, simple, golden rule of morality, so that ethics could become more like other branches of human konwledge: more clear. He got pretty close, and made a good rule known as the Cathegorical Imperative (google it, he smart). But later he came to think that this rule of his lacked something, and people needed a better rule. So he made a better rule. It says:
So act as to treat humanity, whether in your own person or in another, always as an end, and never as only a means.
So another person is never a mean to anything else, and is never a burden. The other must be always your primary goal and what you have in mind above all else. This is the only suitable and proper way to think of a human being.
So you'll never be a burden. No man is ever a burden, it's below human dignity.
I don't know why people must suffer or see others suffer. I know it's hard, because lots of contradictory thoughts run through your head at once. Like, you wish this person didn't do the things they do, because they're irritating or even harmful... you're annoyed that taking care of them is time-absorbing, although there is no chance of improvement... and you feel guilty of thinking those things, because you know they're suffering... at the same time you still love them and miss the times when they were younger and healthy... and you are afraid you will end up like them... and at the same time you kind of like taking care of them because it's the least you can do to help, and you WANT to help, you want to help them so much... you're angry that there's nothing left to do... you want their days to be peacefull... but you can't help but pity them, because you would never want such a life for yourself... and yet you KNOW that still, even in this form, their life IS precious and they ARE worthy of your efforts... at the very least you want them to die and struggle no more... and again you feel guilty for having such thoughts, but you can't help it sometimes.
So it's pretty confusing and I'm sure it's a source of great suffering for your whole family, but remember not to be too harsh on yourself. Just make sure you love your grandmother, you love yourself and your life, and that you love your family. The things we do or think with love can never be wrong.

Well....tbh my grandma with or without alzheimer's has always been a great suffering for the family. I don't think I'm being too harsh on myself, and I'm trying my best, but honestly, she's been selfish and unhappy her entire life and those traits are shining now that she has Alzheimer's. I mean, at least she isn't causing as many fights between my parents, but eh. I love her but I'm not hesitant to admit that she abuses my father's goodwill, with or without the disease. And my mother is very reactionary so unlike me who honestly doesn't care if grandma thinks her parents built this house, my mom wants to reinforce that the house belongs to her and my dad because I have a feeling my grandmother is a control freak -- she's had a habit of eavesdropping on calls and sneaking into other people's bedrooms when we're not at home for quite a while. not sure how my mom ever put up with her cuz they aren't blood related.Β
I'll just try to love everyone as much as possible. Wish my grandmother could too.
It's just a bit hard right now. :/ sorry for the massive rant btw lol. I'm on spring break so I've spent a lovely 9 days with my grandmother at home until my parents come at around 6 - 9 pm and it's just like: why is no one here to help me with this? i mean srsly. =.=

Well, even good people can turn evil when they have Alzheimer's... Considering what you wrote about her, the only thing I wish for me and you is that our relationships with our children and grandchildren will be healthy and not like hers... If anything, it's mean character that makes you a burden to others, not Alzheimer's and not senile age.
