the rough idea is that the creature is a rhino spliced with conch shell qualities. :]

rhino anatomy is too awesome to not to try to adapt.

Indeed. What about splicing a Hermit crab with an African Elephant? XD do you reckon that could work in any way? Because the Elephant could have the eyes of the crab...and it could make use of giant shells..or maybe it's legs could be the crab type but it could still retain the skin and texture of an elephant...

Personally I like to think about shadowy predators that rely on stealth and agility. I also for some reason like alot of creatures that are influenced and that come from the rain forest. Like for example..a really colourful spider-looking creature..or something that looks like a cross between a komodo dragon, a gecko and a Dimetrodon but bright..colourful and aggressive. 

Anyway...there a loads of ideas you could think up..but the stealthy creatures are personally my favorites. Have you ever looked at prehistoric creatures? Because that will give you quite alot of ideas..either that or just cross two species that you wouldn't think to cross maybe.

yeah, prehistoric creatures are a great source of ref for new designs--especially the speculative representations of them based on more recent findings.

there's got to be a generator somewhere, one that let's me  pick two completely different and random species to invite that sort of thing to happen.

I don't know about creature generators..but there is a Pokemon creature generator that creates some interesting things. (Not a fan of Pokemon..but I know it exists). As well I did end up making that Komodo dragon/gecko/Dimetrodon mix..I'll link you to it when I upload it ^^

thanks--my favorite creature design projects involve 'splicing' or hybrid types. this one was a pleasure to conceptualize.

I can certainly understand your interest in hybrid creatures, they are one of my favourite things about concept art. I love how weird things can appear but at the same time look quite believable.
