Description A fun little digital painting of the elusive fight scene that was denied to us viewers near the middle of the movie.

Also, if anyone is interested, I have the video of the process of this digital painting on my Facebook Art Page! Here's the link to the video.

wish we saw this in the movie, would've pleased more hardcore fans about more screen time of the king, instead of the amount of time with the humans. forget the humans, we wanna see monsters fight to the death damn it!

Well, since Thomas tull mentioned a extended cut, there is a chance we might get something more from the film.

Frankly, I'd be surprised if they actually went through with it at this point, seeing how we've had very little news about its release. In fact, it hasn't even been mentioned since last year after the film's theatrical release.

"Godzilla: 2014" was not only an homage to the classic "Gojira", but also to 50's monster movies. Back then, you had to wait until about half way through the movie to see the monsters, because that made build up and because the special effects were all done by hand which took a lot of time. CGI has made film making easier, but Gareth Edwards was smart enough not to show off Godzilla at the first minute of the movie.

Oh trust me, as a huge Godzilla fan for well over 20 years now, I know what he was going for. And despite how much I enjoyed the 2014 Godzilla film, I just thought it needed to focus on him a bit more. In the original film, Godzilla had roughly around 15-20 minutes of footage in a film that was only 90 minutes long. But in this 120 minute film, we only got him for less than 10 minutes. Despite what Gareth Edwards was going for, he took it a little too far in the teasing department in my opinion. Toho has teased Godzilla before in their other films, but never to this extent. But now that he's been introduced, we can hopefully get more focus on him in the sequel. That and Toho's new 2016 Godzilla film on top of that.

I'm sure they will. It's their master plan - feature four monsters, bring in more action

The 'cinematic foreplay' was good at building tension, but it seems the audience wants to go straight to the climax.

The News reel footage showed the fight. Also, read the book; it wasn't a fight - just a skirmish where the male bugged off before anything serious could happen - he knew he was outclassed.

I wonder if the studio included all the "missed" fights in the original cut, but then the producers decided to take them out for the theatrical release. That's my theory, anyway.

Awesome fan pic, btw!

I doubt it.  That would be the equivalent of throwing away 10 million dollars. Gareth Edwards is a director known for working wonders with a given budget. Any extended versions of the film would probably be more character development, which is something the Execs would cut at the drop of a hat.

The cutaway really didn't bother me too much. It was actually ingenious to cut to the kid watching the fight on TV, seems like a nod to the young fans who watched Godzilla growing up. I do think they could have improved the sequence a bit. The build up should have left you with at least a little bit of good fighting. They could have extended the airport scene to like, ten seconds, having the monsters tussle a bit, and THEN cut away. I hope something like that shows up in an extended cut of the movie.

Well, fret no longer, because the movie is definitely getting an extended version - Peter Jackson style - and this means we may get to see extended fights. Just read this interview with Thomas Tull. tohokingdom.com/interviews/tho…

This piece of art is awesome, well deserving edition for my Godzilla collection.

Very nice drawing.

Funny thing about this scene, from the news footage, it looked like some parts of the fights between Godzilla and Mothra (when Mothra's clawing at Godzilla's head).  Oddly enough, I think the same thing happened in the beginning of the final battle as well.  Kinda felt like what they didn't show then, they showed later...IDK, that's what I felt after thinking about it.

But I digress.

I actually didn't mind the cutaway in San Francisco at all. The shot with the closing doors as Godzilla and the Male Muto begin to battle was fantastic, and it jumps directly into the Halo jump which jumps directly into the final battle. Overall, it's a good transition and it doesn't make the audience wait too long for the real show to begin. Regarding the final fight, I think my biggest problem is that the Nuke only had an hour and a half on the clock, which seemed to me like it was an extremely short amount of time from when the Muto snatched it in the bay and when it was put on the boat in the finale.

I notice movies sometimes do that with time...and other forms of entertainment as well.

But yeah, I didn't mind the cutaways too much.  As I said, I feel like what we "missed" was stuff we've seen before and will see later, so really, we didn't miss much to anything.  Really, I think people would complain less about this stuff if the humans were more interesting to those people.  IDK

Nice work. I have a feeling we will get an Extended edition of the film soon. The cut away of the fight didn't bother me though because I liked how it cuts away to a TV screen of the fight. Leaving the whole fight to our imagination.

Oh, don't get me wrong, I still very much liked the movie. I just would have liked to see this fight is all. Not only would it have shown that, but we never saw how Ford and the kid escaped from that collapsing train car either. Just jumped to the aftermath. The movie seemed to have no problems showing the MUTOs front and center, while constantly cutting away from Godzilla himself, which kinda irked me. But overall, it is still a very solid movie. Here's hoping that we'll get to see a bit more of Godzilla in the sequel!

Viathan1994 In reply to Virus-91 [2014-07-07 18:09:43 +0000 UTC]

I can almost guarantee it that the sequel will have more Goji. To not show more of him would get all the movies defenders on the other side I would predict. Nonetheless I really liked the movie, would give it a full 4 of 5 in my own opinion. Would I have liked to see more fighting? Well yeah of course, but for what it was, versus GINO and the 98 travesty, I am very much happy.
Not arguing with you of course, still like the artwork. Happy to know you didn't HATE the movie like some people seem to for reasons I simply cannot agree with, but nonetheless awesome stuff.

Thanks! Despite my criticisms on the film, I cannot bring myself to dislike it or have big problems with it because even though I wanted to see more Godzilla, I cannot deny how astoundingly well done every scene with him in it was handled. Some of those scenes are some of the best moments in the series. I think the Hawaii sequence is arguably the best full-on reveal Godzilla has ever had in a film. The tsunami build up, the pan up shot at the airport with that chilling choir and every time he let out that roar, it shook the entire theater. Gave me chills on multiple occasions. And I'd also be lying if I said I didn't squeal like a little girl when that Atomic Breath finally happened. That was what I was most looking forward to seeing ever since the rumors of it not being in the film circulated. But damn, was I happy to see those blue glowing fins!

I hear ya! Of course everyone is entitled to their opinions and feelings. I just personally loved the movie almost in every way! The atomic breath scene was glorious of course. Goji's expressions as well. Both at his airport reveal and just before he swings his tail into the male, or Hokmuto as I still call him, was a sign to me he had far more personality than just being a monster. If there was one thing this movie did for me that was oh so right, was get who Godzilla was as a character himself down. That's just me though.

Completely agree, this Godzilla definitely had a late Showa/Heisei hybrid feel in terms of personality.
