Description Hello, thanks for clicking this.
In this tutorial, I will tell you a bit more about how to make an UTAUloid.

First, you must ask yourself:

What language do I want to make my UTAUloid sing in?

Most people use so called "recording lists", also known as "reclist" to record the sounds used for their UTAUloid. Without a reclist, recording is almost impossible for a newbie like you.

These links have a lot of great reclist.
Maybe you can find one that is for your language!

vocaloidotaku.net/index.php?/t…
Two CV VC lists: One in Japanese, one in Bulgarian.

vocaloidotaku.net/index.php?/t… ;
A (kind of) complicated English reclist.

vocaloidotaku.net/index.php?/t…
Many CV reclists in languages such as English, Dutch, Spanish, Filipino.
Some of them are not perfect.

... What? There is none that is in your language?

You can still try searching on other sites.
If you still can't find one, then you can make one yourself or you could ask someone to help you!

Reclists are simple .txt files you can write in notepad, so I think you have the thing you need already installed. ;o)

Please be aware that some multilingual and Japanese recording lists are very long and hard to use if you're a newbie to UTAU and making an UTAUloid.

I suggest you to first start out with a CV reclist. After that If you want you can add "extra" sounds that can be used for English or for another language like Spanish or Chinese. Or, you can just create a seperate voicebank for the language when you're experienced enough.

...Oh. I forgot to tell you, there is more than one way to record a voicebank.
A few of the many ways to record a voicebank are these:

CV, which stands for "constant vowel". The sounds go under two groups: vowels (a, i, u, e, o) and constant vowels (ka, wa, ru, me, sho, tsu etc.)
VCV, stands for "vowel consonant vowel" but is also known as Triphones/Triphonics. This is a method to make the UTAUloid sound natural in UTAU. You have to record a few sounds in one file and split them up with the help of oto.ini.
Monophones, a.k.a. "monophonics" are phonemes that consist of one sound.
CV VC means "Constant vowel vowel constant" and is similar to VCV, but tends to be easier to create and use. It tends to have more recordings and usually it sounds different than VCV.

Many people use different programs to record: Some use Audacity, OREMO and Reaper. All of those 3 are free.

However, to run OREMO well, it would be good to switch your locale to Japanese.
OREMO can also read reclists and it is very easy to record with, so I recommend this program the most out of all 3.

...So, did you choose your reclist? And your program? Great! Now let's get started!

((  BEEEEEEEP. WAIT A SECOND.
If you chose a Japanese reclist, I must ask you-- Do you speak Japanese?

To create an UTAUloid that can pronounce the Japanese sounds well,
you should learn how to pronounce the sounds.

Of course this *isn't necessary*, but It would be very very very good If you took your time in training your pronuncation.

The better it is, the more people will like it!
Here is one of the many videos that are out there: youtu.be/V2wzUuGm7yw   ))

Okay, enough of that. Now to the most important part.

Open up your program and follow the reclist you're using. Record each sound.
Each sound should be no longer than 2-3 seconds.

But when you're recording CV, you SHOULDN'T record a sound for over a second and a half.
Try to make your sounds in one tone. It's also good to have a glass of water next to you,
because sometimes your throat can get reaaaally dry. :S

*******Remember: (If you're not using OREMO)

DO NOT give your sounds weird names, like for an example "myutauloid_try1" or something like that. If you're recording the sound "a", name your sound "a". If you're recording the sound "ka", name the sound "ka" etc.

You also must be aware that If you capitalize the first letter in the name of your recording, and use a UST with all lowercase, it won't render your oto.ini settings.

Your sound files MUST BE in a .wav format. No .mp3. ONLY .wav.

Otherwise UTAU won't be able to read your files.********

So, did you finish already? Yes? Perfect!

Put your sounds in ~/Program Files/UTAU/voice in a folder that is named after your UTAUloid.

After that you can do your oto.inis and Voila, a new UTAUloid!

... Oh no. Don't tell me you don't know how to make an oto.ini.
In that case, go to these videos, where it's explained perfectly:

www.youtube.com/watch?v=leuUCv…
www.youtube.com/watch?v=onz6fq…
www.youtube.com/watch?v=N0wgzw…

Of course the character is all up to you!

But remember: the more effort you put in and the more originality there is in the character, the more unique it will be!

You don't have to rush with making your UTAUloid. Take your time!
Most people in the UTAU community like unique-sounding and looking UTAUloids.

Even if your first try with making an UTAUloid wasn't successfull, don't worry: Just ask and look around. We usually don't bite. ;o)

Hi, my UTAU won't play the こ and ご sounds, I have them recorded, oto'd, but everytime they come up, the track goes silent. I'm not sure how to fix it.

I have question. Do we have to record individual tones when making an UTAUloid? For example, I have to record BA in do, re, etc.

You should record a mono-pitch voicebank in one consistent pitch. Multi-pitch voicebanks are possible too, though!

Hi! I have some questions (kinda n00b to UTAU Vb's)~
1) Wich vb type is better? What is the type that gives you a smooth And HQ sound (i am speaking of CV, VCV, etc.)?
2) Let's say that i am going to make a VCV~ Do I need to make a CV first, to make my voicebank complete?
3) How do appends work? Are they just new sounds that you put in the vb or are they a different Thing?
tysm to everybody that Will decide to answer~!

Anna-Jacqueline In reply to Black-Hole-Syndrome [2018-02-07 01:58:13 +0000 UTC]

I know this is very old, but I'd like to try to help anyway!

1) The type of reclist that will render the highest quality / most realistic results is arguably VCV. It also has the most recordings.
2) Only if you are using a VCVLite reclist. A regular VCV reclist includes all the necessary CV bits.
3) "Appends" are usually variations of one character. Common variations are whispery or more powerful versions of an already existing voicebank. They can be put with the first voicebank with suffixes on the aliases, or it can be put as a separate voicebank!

I hope I helped if you still needed it ;w;

I am attempting to make a new voicebank. I have made on before but scrapped it. She worked fine. This new one will not work. On my old one UTAU would create a .frq file and that's obviously what made it work as opposed to my new one, which does not have .frq files. How does one obtain/create said files?

And I like this song! At the moment I have no access to the pc, so you have to wait. sadly. But just until the weekend starts. But the problem with the voicebank is: I am german, so I have a german accent :c

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Anna-Jacqueline In reply to CatPlay [2015-12-10 04:35:46 +0000 UTC]

That isn't a problem, having an accent makes a voicebank unique in a really cool way. I have a bit of a Canadian accent, since my family is from Canada, and now that you say that, I think that may have carried in my voice samples...

CatPlay In reply to Anna-Jacqueline [2015-12-09 18:28:45 +0000 UTC]

If you want, you can have her, but she's just CV and not complete finished. I will send you her later. I finish her yet

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Anna-Jacqueline In reply to CatPlay [2015-12-10 04:34:22 +0000 UTC]

Not a problem. At the moment, Daisy's voicebank is CV as well. Actually, CV-VV, since there are double vowels that can act in a sort of VCV way. If you'd like, I can send you her voicebank before I release her and everything.

👍: 0 ⏩: 2

CatPlay In reply to Anna-Jacqueline [2015-12-10 14:37:11 +0000 UTC]

But I don't know how to fix some vowels, because they have a sort of problems

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Anna-Jacqueline In reply to CatPlay [2015-12-13 00:06:03 +0000 UTC]

If you have the original sound files, I can fix and configure them. I made my voicebank from scratch so I think I could do that easily for you. If you need help with any configurations, you can send me the voicebank and I can fix them for you

CatPlay In reply to Anna-Jacqueline [2015-12-10 14:36:30 +0000 UTC]

really? thank you. I'm can send you her, but there still a few vowels that are missing.

Anna-Jacqueline In reply to CatPlay [2015-12-13 02:25:37 +0000 UTC]

I could even just take a vowel with a consonant and remove the consonant, it's worked alright for me before.

Try highlighting everything, right clicking and going to region properties, and check that the thing that says BRE is at 0 or completely white. If it's grey, double click it.

I'm not sure why either. My only guess is because the computer that has the samples has Windows 8 software. But the Utau program does recognize it's some kind of voice sample.

Try getting applocale. It makes things easier if you don't wanna change locale.  (Also if you use windows 8, run the applocale setup in windows 7 compatibility mode, or else it won't work)
